YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki has announced major updates to the site’s mobile app.
During a keynote at VidCon on 23 June 2017, YouTube’s CEO Susan Wojcicki announced major upcoming updates to its mobile app. It was revealed that video sizes, video sharing, and virtual reality are getting a refresh.
When users are watching a video, its shape or size will automatically change depending on the video, with landscape, portrait, and square options becoming available.
Susan also announced changes to how videos can be shared: users will be able to share and discuss videos with friends within the app. This is scheduled to launch in three weeks in the US and Latin America.
VR180 has also be announced. This a new feature where 3D video can be filmed in 180 degrees. YouTube has developed this feature to help reduce the production costs and technical skill involved with producing full VR videos. It will also be available for live streaming.
