In her book Make Your Mind Up, Bethany Mota shares how she overcame her struggles with growing up, bullying, and a lack of confidence.
Bethany Mota was crippled with shyness from a young age (so much so that people thought she was mute), and was bullied online and in person to the extent that she was homeschooled and rarely left the house. At 13 years old, she discovered YouTube, and started to find her voice and get affirmation from the positive communities she found there.
“The one message that I would want my readers to walk away with is to remember that everything you are going through is temporary,” Bethany tells TenEighty. “It is important to view that whatever you are going through is actually an opportunity to grow, learn, and to become that much stronger.”
“The most fun part [about writing the book] was seeing everything come together,” she adds. “When I got to hold the final book in my hands and to see what I had envisioned officially become a reality.”
Just finished @BethanyMota's book Make Up Your Mind and I'm so sad I didn't want it to end. Such a good read!! 😊

Bethany reveals that one of the funniest moment in the book is a story about how she once got gum stuck in my hair when out on a date: “I had been chewing gum earlier that day and at some point – I have no idea how this happened – the gum got stuck on the strap of my purse. When I got in the car with the guy and we were driving to the restaurant, the gum had gotten completely wrapped up in my hair. The entire car ride I had my hands in my hair literally ripping out chunks of my hair, and by the time we got to the restaurant, I had this huge wad of hair in my hand that I had to shove in my purse so he wouldn’t notice!”
Bethany toured the UK with her book, visiting London, Liverpool, and Greenhithe. The London event involved a talk about the book as well as a Q&A.
