It was 20 years ago today that the world was introduced to the boy wizard we know as Harry Potter.
On this day in 1997, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was published, and went on to be followed by six more books that detailed Harry’s journey as he went on to defeat Lord Voldemort with his friends, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.
20 years ago today a world that I had lived in alone was suddenly open to others. It's been wonderful. Thank you.#HarryPotter20

J.K. Rowling’s series has nestled its way into the hearts of millions, including those of our fave YouTubers. With the hashtag #HarryPotter20 trending all over Twitter, many of them shared their thoughts on the series that changed a generation.
Here’s a round-up of what they had to say!
The series was, and still is, an escape for many
we'll never forget the friends we lost along the way #HarryPotter20 pic.twitter.com/rD7VMzuqV7
— Sammy (@SammyAlbon) June 26, 2017
With each book released, we were transported back into the Wizarding World, where we could get lost in Harry’s adventures as he fought off Dementors, worked his way through each round of the Triwizard Tournament, and stood by his fellow Hogwarts’ alums as Voldemort and the Death Eaters closed in.
Like Sammy Albon, we’re incredibly appreciative of the world J.K. Rowling created, for it allowed us to escape the real world when things got a bit too tough to handle. We couldn’t have made it through our adolescent years without these seven books.
Love hearts all around
THANK YOU SO MUCH JK ROWLING! Happy #HarryPotter20 everyone! 💛💚💙❤️ https://t.co/8fVqQAgGn8
— Hannah Witton (@hannahwitton) June 26, 2017
Honestly, we don’t think there’s a way for us to show just how thankful we are to J.K. Rowling for bringing us this magical world, but we’re glad Hannah Witton is giving us somewhere to start!
Fan interpretations make us lol

While we absolutely adore Harry Potter, there were some aspects of the story that left us questioning what was going through J.K. Rowling’s head while she was writing. One look on Tumblr, as Lex Croucher points out, shows we aren’t the only ones thinking the same thing…
Forbidden sexy spells?!
Happy birthday, Harry! You’re finally old enough to learn those forbidden sexy spells. #HarryPotter20
— Christopher Bingham (@helloiambing) June 26, 2017
Umm, Christopher Bingham, we didn’t realise there were such things as “forbidden sexy spells”. Is J.K. Rowling aware of this?
ALL THE BOOKS
Is it a bit sad to want the special edition #HarryPotter20 books even though I have all the normal ones already???
— Louise (@LouisePentland) June 26, 2017
Don’t be silly, Louise Pentland! Of course it’s okay to want the book’s special editions! Have you seen them?! They’re absolutely gorgeous! And honestly, you can never have too much Harry Potter in your life.
Reread all the books!
Happy #harrypotter20 I've just started re-reading them all for the first time since I was a kid ⚡️ https://t.co/Gm0e8MxrvX pic.twitter.com/9Qne4VLqxX
— Fawn Mead (@xFAWNx) June 26, 2017
Fawn Mead has the right idea. If you have yet to reread the series, now is the perfect time to do so! Relive the magic on the twentieth anniversary of the series’ publication!
So. Jealous.

Rosianna Halse Rojas, we’re so jealous of your Harry Potter swag! It’s all so magical!
We’re getting kind of emotional
Harry Potter stuff makes me unreasonably emotional. Like my eyes will tear up REAL fast over really minuscule things 😂
— Kaya Lili (@x_ToxicTears) June 26, 2017
Kaya Lili isn’t the only one to get emotional over the Harry Potter series. Judging by the unanimous show of hands in our office, it makes us feel the exact same way.
Get a job, Harry
Harry Potter. You're 20 years old.
Get a job.
— Jamie ❌ (@RageNineteen) June 26, 2017
Jamie Spicer-Lewis, have you even read the series? Everyone knows Harry’s an auror!

The world of imagination grows
Happy birthday Harry Potter!!! Thank you @jk_rowling for 20 years of magic and shaping imaginations across the globe! #HarryPotter20
— Carrie Hope Fletcher (@CarrieHFletcher) June 26, 2017
If it weren’t for J.K. Rowling, many wouldn’t have aspired to embrace their creativity and imagination. Without her, we wouldn’t have nearly as many people going after their dreams.
Long reign the queen
Happy 20th anniversary Harry Potter! Long may our magical queen @jk_rowling reign! #HarryPotter20 pic.twitter.com/Vi3kwZgacV

Hogwarts is still home
Even after 20 years, Hogwarts is still there to welcome us home ⚡️ #HarryPotter20
— Cherry Wallis (@CherryWallis) June 26, 2017
Cherry Wallis said it best: no matter what we’re going through or where life takes us, we always know that Hogwarts will be our home.
What a magical 20 years it’s been!
We honestly can’t believe it’s been 20 years since Harry Potter first graced the world and introduced us to the magical Wizarding World. We’re so glad our faves love the series just as much as we do, and you can guarantee we’ll begin rereading the series as soon as we’re finished writing this article!
