After this past week, let’s all take a collective breath.
Phew. Regardless of where you stand on the political spectrum, elections are exhausting. After skilfully evading outspoken Facebook friends and clenching your jaw with every news app notification, it feels like we’ve just finished the longest workout of our lives (which, for us, Professional YouTube Watchers, may not be saying much. Oops).
Fortunately, this week’s Round-Up has everything you need to wind down: a magical music video, a few hot takes on the best of current memes, and some bangers that’ll have you dancing in no time. Do people still say bangers? We’re hip, we promise!
The Internet Explorers | radhaggis
It’s brand spanking new, it’s here, it’s Ewan McIntosh and Dan Stokes with a show pilot for the series you never knew you needed. No, trust us. Your mind really did not know that this was a thing it could possibly need. But here it is, and we are Living.
At times, we are Dan, invested in discerning the integrity of the muscle experimentation stories. Other times, we are Sam-E: interested, though slightly concerned. We like to believe the episode leaves us as a healthy balance between the two. Hey, if we were Netflix executives, we’d know right where we’d invest our money!
P.S. We heard that Weekly Round-Up slip up. TenEighty on the mind, eh Dan?
IF FAKE NEWS WAS REAL NEWS | LukeIsNotSexy
Don’t let the title fool you; there are no poorly strung, straw-coloured toupees present involved in the making of this video.
In light of the recent UK election, Luke Cutforth took a more comedic approach to researching potential candidates and presenting his totally-legit-not-fake-at-all research for our viewing pleasure. I mean, not to say that we’re entirely against the Green Party’s supposed proposition to paint the entire country green, but Luke does bring up some serious points about modern news culture too. The message is clear – make sure you do your own research to come to an informed opinion!
BERTIE IS TWENTY YEARS OLD (oh no) | Bertie Gilbert
Alternative title: Bertie Is Vlogging Again And Oh No Everyone’s Crying I Did Not Agree To This.
Really though, we won’t be shy in singing Bertie’s praises when it comes to this video. It evens feels strange to call this a vlog when it feels like an entirely new take on a familiar genre whose path we had perceived to be pretty well-defined – one that only Bertie Gilbert could bring so beautifully to fruition. Through internal revelations and conversations with the one and only Dean Dobbs, the video touches on personal fulfillment, feelings of inadequacy, and the inevitable changes in perception that come with age.
Well and truly proud of the pair of them over here.
5 of my fave female empowerment songs | Rebecca Munroe
You know those songs: the ones that make an otherwise banal task seem epic, like washing the dishes on a Thursday night is a scene that should be part of the newest Avengers movie fight sequence. Songs that make your insides swell and your mind feel invincible. Rebecca Munroe has got five more songs to add to that list.
And the best thing? They’re all from powerhouse female artists, and regardless of your gender identity, we’re sure it’ll introduce you to a new personal anthem. Strolling down the aisles during your weekly food shop? Female empowerment playlist. Folding clean clothes off the line? You know which Spotify playlist is gonna bring our your inner Diana Prince. In fact, we’re not sure how you’re still reading instead of jamming away already.
DISARM (Official Video) feat. Evanna Lynch | Bry
After eight long months of waiting, we were finally blessed with a music video for Disarm, the first song on Bry’s self-titled album. And paired with one of our favorite actresses straight out of one of our favorite fictional universes? We’re a mess of inconsolable squeals.
Evanna Lynch stars opposite Bry himself as he meanders through the city streets, looking to impress the very busy actress and author at one of her book signings. However, we do have one bone to pick: who in their right mind would kick poor Bry out of a store after hearing him sing this song? Highly unrealistic scenario, 2/5 stars.
Still waiting for the social media flames to burn out? Here are a few more distractions…
Relive all of MCM’s goodness with Daniel J. Layton and the rest of the Lincoln crew in this month’s episode of Pretentious Monthly Scrapbook. Yeah, there are some other good bits in it, but let’s be real — we’re in it for the shot of the fully functioning R2D2 robot. Kidding! We’re also in it for Hazel Hayes‘s impressive slew of insults.
Quick! What’s the sound effect that encompasses watching a video by The RH Experience? Manic laughter, probably. This week, Luke Spillane, Conor Jatter, and Tom Webster are joined by Jenny Bingham for an improv game that’ll have you in fits.
Bob Ross who? Chloe Dungate — err, we mean famed artist Tony — celebrates 100 videos with a very special tutorial. How did he know potatoes were our favorite fruits?
Which series combines poems about Ron Weasley with reminiscing fondly on days as a dealer of illicit substances? Well, that’s none other than TwinJoke, where the latest episode saw Jacob and Michael Trueman humiliating/being joined by Steven Bridges, our favorite street magician and slam poet.
