Your voice is important and what better platform is there to share it than YouTube?
Social media is a key part of our identities these days. We use it to document our day, to share the causes we’re passionate about, and to let the world know what we believe in. This is why it plays such a huge role in politics (and even with that statement, we feel as though we’re understating its importance).
With a surprise election on the horizon, there have been loads of posts about politics. There’s been a huge push to get young people to vote this time around, especially following the turnout for the 2015 General Election, where only around 40% of 18-to-24-year-olds turned out to the polls, and for the Brexit vote. That’s why YouTube has teamed up with many of our faves for the #PowerToDecide campaign.
So here it is, Five of the Best: #PowerToDecide Videos, reminding everyone that their voice deserves to be heard, YouTube style.
#PowerToDecide – Adrian Bliss | YouTube Spotlight
Kicking off our list strong is Adrian Bliss, famous YouTuber.
This video is charming and hilarious, all while getting across the aforementioned message of making your voice heard. After watching, there’s no way (no way, we say!) you’ll skip out on the election, especially if voting means you’ll look as cool as Adrian does skateboarding in a chic shorts and suit jacket combo while drinking a bottle of bubbly.
Also, we don’t know about you, but we think “pick a better biscuit” is possibly the best campaign slogan to come out of this election. Scratch that, possibly EVER.
Why All Young People Should Vote #PowerToDecide | Jack Edwards
This super informative video by the one and only Jack Edwards is a must-see for anyone who’s sceptical about turning out to the polls on 8 June. Why, you ask? Well, let us tell you!
Throughout the video, Jack explains the (unnecessarily) complicated UK electoral system in a way that’s straightforward and easy to understand, which, frankly, is super impressive – we hadn’t seen anyone do so until now. We were highly encouraged by the enthusiasm we saw in the comments section of the video as a result.
Thank you, Jack, for reminding us that our vote matters!
British Girl Registers To Vote in Under 3 Minutes! (not clickbait) | Hannah Witton
Don’t be fooled by this video’s length – Hannah Witton really does register to vote in under three minutes!
Not only does Hannah give you loads (and we mean loads) of advice for finding out which party is right for you – specifically how well your local MP represents what you believe in – but she also reminds us that, despite Brexit seeming to be the only thing anyone talks about these days, it’s not the only thing you’ll be voting on this coming election.
Informative and an important watch, it’s the video you NEED to see if you’ve still not registered.
Every Decision You Make MATTERS | GE 2017 #PowerToDecide | JayzinQ
As young people, we might not always think that our thoughts and opinions matter to those who’ve been around much longer than we have, especially when they’re the ones who run the country, but we’re wrong. Our voice matters, and it’s important we realise that.
This awesome video by Jerome Bailey, a.k.a. JayzinQ, shows us just how much one small decision can affect our lives. We’ve all had those disastrous one-too-many-snoozes situations that we’d rather forget, so imagine the fallout from deciding not to vote! We’d rather not think about it…
You Have The #PowerToDecide | Mandeville Sisters
Closing out our list is this short but sweet video from Grace and Amelia Mandeville, and it has a simple message: you have the power to decide what you want to do and what you believe in. No-one can tell you how to think and how to run your life if you stick to your convictions and let them know just how you want things done, and there’s no better way to do that this month than to enact your #PowerToDecide and vote in the general election.
Make your voice heard in Westminster. As the Mandeville Sisters, us, and the rest of the creators featured in this list will tell you, you’ll regret it if you don’t.
Remember, on 8 June, you have the #PowerToDecide.
If you’re over 18 and have registered to vote, we hope these five videos have helped convince you to go out there and use your voice this Thursday. Hey, they may have even helped you decide which party to vote for! And if you’re not able to vote, make sure everyone you know who can will. Remember, every vote counts.
