YouTube has announced it will produce five new shows, with two fronted by YouTubers Rhett & Link and The Slow Mo Guys.
Ellen DeGeneres, Demi Lovato, and Kevin Hart will also be fronting original shows.
These series were announced at YouTube’s Brandcast event in New York on 4 May. They will be available exclusively on YouTube, on the free, ad-supported part of the platform rather than YouTube Red.
Rhett McLaughlin and Charles ‘Link’ Neal III‘s show, titled Good Mythical Morning, will be an expanded version of their daily talk show. The Slow Mo Guys, Gavin Free and Daniel Gruchy, will have a show dedicated to filming phenomena in slow motion, called The Super Slow Show.
YouTube Red will also be gaining approximately 40 new shows and movies. YouTube is said to be investing hundreds of millions of dollars into the service.
YouTube Chief Business Officer Robert Kyncl said that ad-supported original series “[are] becoming more and more rare”.
“The platforms for the future are different from the ones of the past,” added YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki. “YouTube is not TV — and never will be.”
