The Playlist Live FOMO has well and truly settled in.
It’s that time of year again where all our faves jet off to Orlando and spend the weekend hanging out with Disney characters in the beautiful Florida sun while we’re left with grey skies and piles of coursework. Twitter and Snapchat have been our saviours as we try to vicariously live through all the UK creators lucky enough to head over to the U S of A (where’s that frowning filter when you need it?) – but hey, that means good travel vlogs to come!
With all that excitement, you may have missed out on some of the great videos scattered throughout your subscription feed this week. But no worries! Being the diligent (and YouTube-obsessed) humans we are, we’ve hunted them all down and laid them out right here for your viewing pleasure. On with the Weekly Round-Up!
Thief (Original) | Maisie Peters
We’ve done it. We here at TenEighty HQ have come up with a surefire way to put a smile on your face this Monday, something we thought a previously impossible task… Well, maybe Maisie Peters is to thank for this one, but we’re going to give ourselves a pat on the back for recommending it!
Give Maisie’s newest song Thief a good listen. Though the lyrics are rather sombre, describing love lost to the tune of a gently strummed ukulele, her mastery over songwriting is so beautiful that you won’t be able to help but sit there in awe. How on earth did she manage to write this in 15 minutes?! The last thing we accomplished in 15 minutes was taking about five different BuzzFeed quizzes. Hey, don’t judge us! We NEEDED to know which kind of bread we are.
MOVING TO ANOTHER PLANET | KickThePJ
Ahh, a video on moving out! Just in time for those of us whose journeys in university and college are coming to an end, something practical and applicable to our lives, and…
…Well, we may have spoken too soon. But for what PJ Liguori‘s latest video lacks in pragmatism, it makes up for in, well, everything else. From the dynamic planets we’ll soon call home to the small bits of background animation in the interview shots, it’s nothing short of magical. In fact, we’re not entirely sure how he keeps astounding us with the quality and creativity of his content, but we’re happy to keep up the challenge!
13 Reasons Why | Calum McSwiggan
Think you’re in for a take on the current hit Netflix original series (which we totally binge-watched in one sitting)? Not this time. Calum McSwiggan‘s video is much bigger than that.
For anyone who has spent time scouring the many controversial opinion pieces surrounding 13 Reasons Why, it’s no secret that the show has received a divided reception. However, whether you’re a fan of it or not, Calum’s video digs at the heart of the matter. His contribution to the discussion is a spoken word piece dedicated to the 13 people who have kept him going in times of trouble and given him reason to persist. With beautiful prose and powerful, honest content, we can confidently say this is one of our favourite videos from him.
My Favourite Bookshops in London! | Ariel Bissett
If, after your tour of London’s best coffee joints last week, you’re looking for somewhere to stop, rest your feet, and work your mind, then Ariel Bissett‘s latest video is going to hit the spot.
This week, our favourite BookTuber is taking us on a journey across the city to her favourite bookshops. Not only are the visuals engaging and her selections on point, her energy is seriously contagious. If we had to list just one thing we loved about Ariel’s videos, it’s that energy. You can tell by the way she speaks and by her genuine excitement that she absolutely loves what she’s doing. We wouldn’t take recommendations more to heart from anyone else!
I Wore The Worst Jeans In The World | emmablackery
Capping us off with some funny to cut through the Monday blues is none other than Emma Blackery who, this week, made a rather bold fashion choice… Err, can we call this bold if the plastic jeans were see-through?
We ran a poll at the office and couldn’t decide the biggest fault of these bad boys: their aesthetic, or that sound they make when you walk in them. But you know what? Rock it, Emma. This opens up an entirely new door for jeans lovers. What’s next? Rubber jeans? Faux fur? The world is your wardrobe, for better or for worse.
Still in need of more YouTube?
As if the Intertwined tour couldn’t incite anymore excitement, Dodie Clark has released a beautiful and gloriously cramped live rendition of Would You Be So Kind? on her side-channel. Try watching it without breaking into an ear-to-ear grin. We dare you.
Hold onto your llama hats (or prepare to chuck them in the nearest bin whilst shedding a single tear) because Dan Howell is doing a big ol’ rebrand. While we’re sad to collectively push “danisnotonfire” into the past, we can’t wait to see what this new era will bring. We’re still waiting on that pastel merch!
Try drawing a bicycle from memory. Lovely! Now, try drawing Bellsprout. Watch Chloe Dungate and Echo Gillette face off in an epic battle of pen and paper as they try to remember exactly what those first-generation Pokémon look like. Alternative title: Does This Pokémon Even Have Arms?
Baking With Layton history was made this week as Daniel J. Layton brought back the show’s very first accidental guest Jack Howard to make some (v moist) lemon cake. What, no #spon for Mrs Johnson’s kitchenwares this time around?
