We get it, it’s been a hectic seven days.
We’ve barely been keeping up with ourselves! News stories have been pouring into TenEighty HQ left, right, and centre. Imagine the Hogwarts letter scene from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, only with fewer owls, significantly less magic, and more hours typing away on our computers.
Luckily, your favourite YouTube creators seem to be working harder than ever as well, what with all the great content they’ve set live this week. We’d complain about them making it harder to narrow down our picks for this week’s Round-Up, but isn’t everyone a winner when we’re treated to another La La Land cover in our sub boxes?
Spoilers! We’ll let you get to the videos…
Reverse Clues ft. Tom Bacon – The RH Experience
In a magnificent return to the platform, The RH Experience have blessed us with both a new video AND a new game, the brainchild of the one and only Tom Bacon. Members Conor Jatter, Tom Webster, Luke Spillane, and Dan Attfield take on the impossible task of deciphering voices played backwards, and let’s just say it went poorly… Or very, very well, depending on your interpretation of success.
If it has anything to do with a room of grown men bursting into laughter at the member of the word “ham”, then you’re in for a treat!
YouTubers and the Media – BananaJamana
In light of recent events in the community, Jamie Jo has decided to add her 5p into what we’re sure is a very large discussion jar. This week, she takes on the topic of YouTubers and the mainstream media in exactly the way we’d expect her to: calmly and with a level head.
She discusses the dangers of painting an entire group of people with the same brush, whether it be in a good or bad light. YouTubers aren’t going to all fit into one box by virtue of the platform they’re on; diversity of interest, viewpoints, backgrounds, and appearance are all integral parts of YouTube’s identity. Thank for starting off the discussion, Jamie!
an honest chat about weight loss – NikiNSammy
Stepping away from the funny this week is Sammy Albon, whose newest video is a candid conversation about the effects of weight loss. No, not the noticeable physical ones, but the lasting mental effects that continue to crop up.
What Sammy shared was beautifully spoken and brave to boot, so we’d just like to let him know how much we appreciate his honesty with his audience. Even in a small way, this will help people going through similar struggles know they aren’t alone.
[a poem about my body] – justkissmyfrog
Leena Normington has only gone and written a poem about body positivity, and it would be an understatement to say we’re bloody thrilled about it! We’re all about pretty words in almost any situation (hey, we’re writers), but what stands out the most about Leena’s video is her delivery. It’s confident and honest, her happiness transforming into a beauty that’ll surely blind everyone she graces with her presence. We’re fans, can’t you tell?
Keep rockin’ it, girl!
Someone In The Crowd – with friends! – doddleoddle
If La La Land covers were worth £5 each, we’d all be swimming in Gatsby-style pools of money by now. But boy, are we a sucker for them, especially when they include so many of our faves guest-starring alongside Dodie Clark.
Never have we been so happy to see so many primary colours in the same place. But the question remains: what is in the water that this spectacularly talented group of friends have been sipping, and why are they not sharing? Also, for everyone’s sanity, please do not comment on the particular hue of Dodie’s shirt. Hazel Hayes just might have your head for it.
Were you looking for more? It’s a good thing we’ve got you covered.
Is it too late to ask Zannah Perrins to be our collective Valentine? She stole our hearts in her cover of Maggie Rogers’ Alaska – singing, head-bobbing and reverse-motion dancing on point.
Was your Valentine’s Day less “paint me like one of your French girls” and more “Titanic hitting the iceberg”? Let Emma Blackery soothe your lovely soul with a hand-crafted salad, or perhaps just a good attempt at one.
Feeling complacent in pursuing your passions? The brilliant Ana Marta from New Age Creators has some words of wisdom to help lift you out of your mental slump.
Whether or not you know it, you’ve surely seen Tomek‘s work in and around YouTube. But who exactly is he? Find out more about he man behind the camera in his latest self-exploratory video. We, for one, can’t wait for more!
