Web series Two Housemates will return for a third run in 2017, featuring Sherlock writer and actor Mark Gatiss.
Writer, producer, and co-director Sean Joseph Young recently released a teaser trailer for the upcoming series of the show, which follows the lives of struggling actor Ryan and his housemate Kate.
Sean reveals that there will be a lot in store for Ryan and Kate during this upcoming series. “I’ve had the underlining ‘Will they? Won’t they?’ arc for the last two series,” he says, speaking to TenEighty. “In this one, we will be giving the answer to the question!”
When asked which of the two lead characters will have the most development during the series, Sean says, “Oh, it’s got to be Kate, by far! I wanted to do a lot with her in Series Two but unfortunately, Lucy [Chappell] wasn’t available for filming, so scripts had to be rejigged to suit her availability. Now that we have her for a good amount of time, I’m really focusing on Kate. She’s gone from a bit of a nervous, frustrated lady to a nervous but forthcoming and capable human – the goal for us all, I suppose!”
Mark Gatiss will be playing the role of Ryan’s stepdad, Alexander. “[Alexander] is a complete arse, which Mark plays fantastically,” says Sean. “Oh, and his dog is in the show as well! His dog was awesome.
“[Mark] is filled with stories and was so easy to direct. A definite privilege,” Sean affirms. “I got to partly work with him on Sherlock Series One, but never really thought that I’d get to act and direct him while he performs my own stuff, so it was a huge ‘pinch me, I must be in a very elaborate and long dream’ moment. He advocates working with smaller writers as a way of helping them, and he’s certainly done it here.”
Series Three is set to be released later in 2017, with much of the filming yet to be completed. “We filmed with Mark in December as he is a busy man, but we will properly start in a month or so once I have completely sorted the production side as well as casting the roles,” explains Sean.
He adds that anyone interested in being involved in the series can send their CV to TwoHousemates@gmail.com.
The first and second series of Two Housemates can be found on Sean’s YouTube channel.
