Suli Breaks will be performing his Not A Role Model show across the UK.
Suli will be performing a selection of his latest works in the show, which will take place over January and February 2017, visiting Birmingham, Sheffield, Exeter, Loughborough, and Oxford. Tickets for his Birmingham show are on sale now, with others to follow.
Combining elements of theatre and poetry, Not A Role Model will take the audience on a “metaphorical bus journey into his life, as he discusses issues such as growth, falling in love, growing up in inner city London, education, passion, adversity and his path to success”.
Suli uses poetry to engage with people on social topics such as racism, religion, education, and beauty. Since starting his channel in 2008, he has accumulated over 20 million views and 300,000 subscribers, as well as creating viral spoken word videos such as Why I Hate School But Love Education and I Will Not Let An Exam Result Decide My Fate.
In a video on his channel, Suli said about the show: “It’s really just about challenging yourself and, for me personally, I guess it’s always been about the challenge. Because when I first started people were like ‘poetry’s spoken word – no one’s going to want to listen to that’. But look at where we are now. So I guess [this show] is just an extension of that challenge, and I hope the people will support me on it.”
The full list of dates for the tour is as follows:
- 17 January – Birmingham University
- 9 February – Exeter University
- 20 February – Loughborough University
- 21 February – Oxford Brookes University
