Gaming fans, assemble!
Want to know a not-so-well-kept secret about all of us here at TenEighty? No? Well, we’re going to tell you anyway: we’re massive video game fans! Yeah, we know, we might not look it, but we totally know how to smash our way to the top on Super Smash Bros, survive the nuclear wasteland in Fallout 4, and drive some fast cars (without crashing into anything!) in Grand Theft Auto.
On 13 January, much to the envy of everyone in the office, many of our faves were invited to the Nintendo Switch premiere, hosted by Nintendo UK. Not only did they get to test out the new system, but they also got to play the company’s newest games (the new Zelda looks sooo good) and chill with the likes of Nintendo Europe president Satoru Shibata.
Since we sadly couldn’t attend the event, we decided to create a round-up of the best moments from the day. Prepare to feel everything from pure jealousy to indescribable happiness.

Look at the crisp graphics, the clear colours… Ahh, Breath of the Wild looks positively divine!
Tom Burns, how we so wish we could be you!
Did he manage to get a photo?
Satoru Shibata (President of Nintendo Europe) is just stood in front of me. Do I… do I ask this business man for a photo? Do I?
— Dean Dobbs (@DeanDobbs) January 13, 2017
Dean Dobbs was without a doubt the biggest fangirl at the premiere, as well as the centre of the day’s most riveting saga. Did he manage to get a photo with Satoru Shibata or didn’t he? The suspense was killing us!
HE GOT THE PHOTO
I LOOK UGLY BUGLY BUT WE DID IT pic.twitter.com/GPlTxvWgNY

YESSSSSS!
*We are the Champions plays in the background*
Some of the games are a bit… out there
here we are at the Nintendo Switch launch playing the new game where you milk a virtual cow. I lost. #nintendoswitch pic.twitter.com/FTYhcGbGLc
— Luke Franks (@luke_franks) January 13, 2017
We knew Nintendo were going to release new games for the Switch, we just didn’t think they’d create a cow-milking simulator… To each their own, we guess.
Luke Franks, what did you think of it?
We knew we couldn’t trust these two
Mario stole my hat tho lol #NintendoSwitch pic.twitter.com/fIGNe3SEzE
— beckii✨ (@BeckiiCruel) January 14, 2017
Mario and Luigi might seem like the good guys, defeating Bowser in order to save Princesses Peach and Daisy, but we always knew there was something about them we just couldn’t trust.
Beckii Cruel, best keep an eye on your hat, lest these two dastardly fellows try to steal it again.
Once again, Zelda steals the hearts of millions
I JUST PLAYED ZELDA 💚🎮 #NintendoSwitch

Yes, we’ve already mentioned Breath of the Wild in this article, but who made it a rule that we couldn’t talk about it again?
Ellen Rose, we can’t put into words how jealous we are of you right now.
Yeah, yeah, we get it. You’re good at video games…
Got to play the Nintendo Switch today and got first place in everything Luigi was surprised https://t.co/ExMl20wlvm pic.twitter.com/EN6voKGVTR
— Evan Edinger (@EvanEdinger) January 13, 2017
No need to brag about your gaming skills, Evan Edinger. We already know you’re the king of Super Smash Bros… However, you have yet to play against us. We challenge you to a Smash Bros. duel to the death. That is, unless you’re chicken?
Who doesn’t love food?
They just fed me battered halloumi, chips and mushy peas. For that alone, I heartily endorse this console. #nintendoswitch
— Daniel J. Layton (@DanielJLayton) January 13, 2017
Oh, Daniel J. Layton, of course the free food would make you more happy than actually playing the games. Hopefully it inspired you to make a few more episodes of Baking With Layton!
What an amazing day it was
What an amazing day to be a Nintendo fan. 😵

All in all – a big upgrade from the 3DS, and more portable than the Wii U. Some promising games on show. #nintendoswitch pic.twitter.com/qarcrlwLvV
— Chris Foxx (@thisisFoxx) January 13, 2017
Based on what I saw today I'm v excited for Arms; SnipperClips looks amazing; Breath Of The Wild can just fuck me right up #NintendoSwitch
— Liam Dryden (@LiamDrydenEtc) January 13, 2017
Ok, so I don't even know where to begin with how great today's #nintendoswitch event was, I have so much to say!
— Matt Ley (@Thelaserbearguy) January 13, 2017
Overall, it appears to have been a fun day: Chris Foxx seemed satisfied, Liam Dryden offered up some solid recommendations (we’ll definitely be picking up Breath of the Wild the moment it’s released), and Matt Ley couldn’t find the words to describe how much fun he had!
Emma Blackery, you couldn’t have put it better. It truly was an amazing day to be a Nintendo fan.
And so another event comes to a close.
We laughed, we cried and we were left drooling over the variety of games the Switch will have to offer. Overall, the event looked like a lot of fun, and we very much hope we get an invite to any future ones. We promise we won’t fangirl too much, honest!
