We made it! Hooray!
After an unarguably horrific 2016, we’re finally home for Christmas. While Trump took over the US and we still can’t quite wrap our heads around Brexit, YouTube has never failed to make us feel all happy inside.
Now join us as we spread festive cheer from a tinsel-covered TenEighty HQ in our dodgy jumpers – as we make sure you have everything you need for the ULTIMATE YouTube Christmas.
Here’s our checklist to make sure optimal YouTube-ness is achieved.
Set up a Christmas playlist
This adorbs version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Gary C and Pete Bucknall will guarantee you feel all warm and fuzzy – and like you’re sitting in front of an open fire with some mulled wine even if you’re outside in the freezing cold.
If you’re the giving type (and this is the way to be around Christmas) then TWENTY-FIVE YouTubers have come together to create a charity single for Make-A-Wish Foundation. Yes you read that correctly. Do not adjust your phones or computer screens.
Marina Joyce, Riyadh Khalaf, Melanie Murphy are just some of the names involved in the single, titled Christmas Without You. If you’re as obsessed as we are you can read more about it in our full article.
Speaking of good causes, Charlie McDonnell and Emily Diana Ruth’s cat Gideon – arguably our favourite cat on all of YouTube (sorry to all the other cats online) – has released his own album ahead of the festive period. Obviously.
It was all part of Charlie’s Project For Awesome 2016 campaign which makes us feel all warm inside. Good for Gideon, reducing world suck one hit track at a time.
Finally, Chloe Dungate took on the classically creepy Baby, It’s Cold Outside. We’re presenting this one without comment. It’s not needed.
Decorate the Christmas tree
Perhaps the best Christmas gift of all – Samantha Maria is now a mum! Can you believe it? So, in honour of her beautiful bundle of joy, and to get prepped for the Christmas season, Sammi showed us the best way to get your tree looking glam ready for an appearance from Santa.
Niomi Smart has also shared a video of her Christmas day and has got together with her family in order to decorate the tree together. It’s super adorable and no, YOU’RE crying.
Catch a pantomime
Oh panto – the annual British tradition that justifies the rest of the world thinking we’re absolutely bonkers. And this year, a couple of YouTubers are joining in the fun and taking to the stage to bring to life our favourite fairytales. (Oh no they aren’t, Oh yes they are! …Sorry.)
Jonny Vickers is performing at Kenton Theatre as Buttons in Sleeping Beauty, while Philip Green is at Epsom Playhouse with Celebrity Big Brother’s Heavy D for their run of Aladdin. Olly Pike is also performing in Aladdin, but he’s doing his run at the Capitol in Horsham.
For anyone not so into pantomimes – HOW DARE YOU! But luckily Carrie Hope Fletcher had everyone covered as she performed in A Christmas Carol at London’s Elysium Theatre on December 19.
Make a Christmas list (and check it twice!)
We’d be lying if we said we hadn’t got a whole heap of YouTube gems on our Christmas list this year – starting with Dodie Clark’s EP and upcoming tour. We need both. NOW. Like, right this second.
As well as this, YouTubers have been writing HEAPS of books this year – with Tyler Oakley releasing Binge, Carrie Hope Fletcher releasing On the Other Side and its spin-off novella Winter’s Snow, Dan Howell and Phil Lester writing about their adventures in the REAL world with Dan and Phil Go Outside, and Zoe Sugg releasing the third book from the Girl Online collection.
Prepare the Christmas treats
Oh Zoe, we’re so glad we have you around to show us everything we need to make us look like we know what we’re doing in the kitchen to impress our family and friends. Forget the Christmas dinner (we’ll leave that to our elders, because let’s face it, who knows how to make perfect roast potatoes?!), CHOCOLATE is what it’s is all about!
Cry at the Christmas ads…
Why do all the ads at Christmas make us a little weepy? At least we know we’re not the only ones. This happened last year, but it’s still just as funny watching Tom Fletcher get a little teary at the John Lewis ad – and then baby Buzz laughing at him. Bless.
Not only that, our very own TenEighty Co-Editor Alex J Brinnand even got in on the action and reacted to a whole bunch of Christmas adverts he’d never seen before. How could you not know who Buster The Boxer is!?
Celebrate the good…
… and moan about the bad. That’s exactly what Teoh Lander-Boyce of TenEighty has been doing in his latest video starring NeonFiona. Who knew the TenEighty Editors were so un-festive! BAH HUMBUG.
Spend time with the family
Most importantly, Christmas is the time to bring the family together – whether it’s your actual blood parents, or your self-made squad family. Here’s Joe Sugg and Zoe again looking back at their Christmas past. N’awwh.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
So that’s it – your checklist is complete! Now you’ve got everything you need to make this a fantastic Christmas full of YouTube cheer. Now it’s up to you and whoever you have the pleasure of sharing the festive season with. Enjoy!
