Dottie James and Cambria Bailey-Jones star in the video as a couple dealing with the highs and lows of their relationship in a series of fragmented moments brought together by dodie’s vocals. The acoustic original of the song was supplemented by backing vocals and percussion for the EP.
Last year dodie confirmed that the song was about “trying to stay friends after a relationship and it being difficult”, a concept which is reflected in the video.
The video was directed by Sammy Paul. Reflecting on his creative decisions, he tells TenEighty: “I wanted elements of narrative but never wanted it to feel too dramatic or for it to tell too clear of a story. For me it was this idea of snapshots; very fleeting but authentic-feeling moments.”
He adds that “it was a very loose shoot. Each micro scene had elements of improvisation within them which helped avoid anything feeling too staged. I gave both actresses a lot of freedom within scenes.”
Dodie’s EP Interwined is available on iTunes.
