Zoe Sugg slips into the role of Sleeping Beauty for Linda Blacker’s newest set of fantasy portraiture.
Set in the opulent Brighton Pavilion, the series depicts the traditional princess in a new way, using her own compassion and inner strength to bring herself out of a dark trance in lieu of a prince’s kiss. “I wanted to create my version of the princess who transforms from the damsel in distress to the heroine of the story,” Linda says of the creative choice. “I wanted her to be self-empowering, as Zoe is such a huge role model to many young girls.”
Linda notes that her favourite photo in the series came as a surprise: “The first photograph of Zoe laying down in the golden dress came out better than I imagined. Originally I planned for Zoe to be laying on golden pillows, so I am very grateful for that last minute adaption as I think it works really well!”
“Zoe was a pleasure to work with!” adds Linda. “She brought great energy and enthusiasm to the shoot and was very open and trusting of my direction – which always means a lot! My favourite moment is always seeing the YouTuber as a character in full costume and on set. When you’ve been working on a concept for a month, it’s a really rewarding moment!”
The golden dress featured in the shoot was designed by Joanne Fleming, and the shoes were sourced from Irregular Choice. Linda also teamed up with makeup artist Ashleigh Bunce, who has worked with Linda on previous YouTuber Fairytale series and her Modern Women photoshoot.
As for Linda’s next project, she is remaining tight-lipped for now, revealing only that the subject may have a cruel stepmother. “I’m also toying with the idea of casting a few fairytale princes for an interesting change,” she adds.
The full shoot, and more of the YouTuber Fairytale series, can be found on Linda’s Instagram.
