Some of the world biggest and best-known singers started on YouTube…
While making videos might be a hobby for some, many budding musicians use YouTube to showcase their talent and reach a bigger audience. That’s exactly what Hannah Trigwell has been doing for nearly five years on YouTube.
“I was busking in my hometown when I started,” she says. “At first, YouTube was slow and steady while I was finding my feet. Then the growth became huge and exponential.”
Her most popular video is an acoustic cover of Stay With Me by Sam Smith, which was uploaded in May 2014. The video has over 13 million views and still attracts numerous positive comments.
YouTube has allowed Hannah to grow an international audience and she cites it as being the reason she is a touring artist today. “It has allowed me to forge my own path in music, with complete creative control. I also drink many more cups of tea now because of it!”
Hannah has had two Number One singles in Asia and enjoys traveling. “I am seeing things I never would have and YouTube has changed my life, allowing me to pursue something I’ve always loved.”
Between posting covers and live performance videos, Hannah uploads weekly vlogs and takes her audience behind-the-scenes of her work. “It’s really hard to keep up with posting regular vlogs at the same time as being on tour and having recording commitments,” she reveals. “But I just love being able to share all the fun stuff too.”
On the topic of her style and inspirations, Hannah says she doesn’t want the raw emotion in her songs to be lost by over the top production. “I’m a big fan of nicely shot videos with great audio quality, so I really like the live sessions by Ont Sofa,” she says. “Vlog-wise, I’m inspired by Ben Brown, and also Rose and Rosie Dix.”

When asked what advice she gives to people who are thinking about making videos, Hannah is all for getting stuck in. “Don’t wait. Just go for it,” she says. “Make that channel, plan that video, shoot it and do it well! Just be consistent.”
