Summer in the City is officially over for another year.
Show of hands if you wish you could invent a time machine and relive the entire weekend? We know we would if we could. We had so much fun this weekend watching our faves meet their viewers, perform on the main stage, and bring about important discussion during the panels. But TenEighty, what was your favourite thing about SitC 2016? Well, since you asked, it was…
Meeting you guys! We loved seeing those of you who stopped by our stand to pick up a physical magazine and to say hi. It was really cool being able to put faces to our readers, and it’s our favourite thing about SitC each year. You guys remind us why we love running TenEighty so much.
With all this weekend’s excitement (and, of course, the anticipation that ran rampant beforehand), you might have missed the glory that was this week’s top videos. It was a stellar week in the YouTube sphere – so much so that it was hard to narrow down our picks to just five videos! It’s lucky we have that little extras section at the end to sneak in a few more.
6/10 – original song – doddleoddle
We’ll be the first to admit that we’ve featured Dodie Clark a lot recently, but can you blame us? The girl’s been on fire lately (figuratively, not literally. We’d be quite concerned if she were actually on fire). She collaborated with Jon Cozart, won YouTube Song of the Year at the inaugural SitC Awards and released 6/10, a new original song.
It’s been awesome seeing Dodie’s songwriting abilities grow over the years and this latest offering shows just how far she’s come. Honest, relatable, and emotional, it’s a beautiful listen that could only come from someone like Dodie.
Give it a listen. We know you’ll have it on repeat for the rest of week.
Girlfriend VS Twin Brother – NikiNSammy
Is it just us or do Niki and Sammy Albon‘s videos instantly get ten times better when Socially Awkward McGee (or Linda Blacker, as she’s more widely known) makes an appearance?
Bringing the comedy and laughs, Niki and Sammy definitely didn’t disappoint with their latest video. Sammy challenged both Linda and Niki to see who knows him better, and let’s just say that we didn’t know the pair were so competitive – and we thought we didn’t like to lose!
Aside from the obvious fact that we obviously need to brush up on our Sammy Albon trivia, what we took from this video is that Niki will forever be the winner of Best Buzzer Ever. Don’t tell us you haven’t been randomly saying “a potato flew around my room” all day.
How I Stay Positive – thisbedottie
We know there are mixed opinions over sponsored videos (and that’s a discussion for another day), but we can’t deny the creativity they inspire. Don’t believe us? Just watch Dottie James‘s latest video.
It’s hard to stay positive sometimes. Life’s a journey of ups and downs, and sometimes the downs pile up to the point where we can’t think positively. Dottie gets this. That’s why she’s decided to share how she stays positive, by letting us know that all we need to remember to do is clean the window with which we see the world. With little reminders, we’ll be able to see through a cleaner lens and live a much more positive life.
Pair Dottie’s message with the beautiful scenery she’s featured and you’ve got one beautiful video.
All Killer – TRAILER – The Midnight Beast
When you think about the online video community, what’s the one thing you feel is missing? A musical, of course! And not just any musical: a musical to die for.
The Midnight Beast have dropped the trailer for their upcoming musical All Killer, which is set for release via Vimeo, and it’s got us pretty excited. Think of it as High School Musical meets Grease meets Footloose meats whatever other musicals you can think of (we’re just listing names at this point) – except this musical has a killer twist. Okay, we’ll stop with the puns…
All Killer includes appearances from Hazel Hayes, Chris Kendall, Hannah Witton, Jack Howard, and more, and it’s set for release on 15 August. We’re counting down the days!
Why I’m Coming Off the Pill | The Hormone Diaries Ep. 1 – Hannah Witton
Speaking of Hannah, she’s the one closing our Round-Up with the first episode of her new series, The Hormone Diaries.
Hannah has decided to come off the pill and allow her body to do its “hormonal thing”, and is bringing us along for the journey! Throughout the series, we’ll be watching as her body changes, and will be treated to discussions with special guests about topics her viewers are interested in.
We’re excited to see the next episode of The Hormone Diaries, Hannah. Thanks for deciding to share such a personal journey with us!
Don’t feel totally caught up yet? It’s a good thing we collected some more goodies for you to watch.
Charlie McDonnell opened up about his struggles with anxiety and depression, continuing the ongoing discussion of mental health in both the online world and in real life. Remember, mental illness isn’t something to be ashamed of!
Francesca Georgiou has written a powerful poem about human complexity and how you can be both strong and sweet. There’s no need to be one or the other. That’s what makes humans so great!
Everyone needs a little more Dan Stokes in their lives, and you can fulfill that need by watching his latest video! It’s been described as problematic, life-changing, and enjoyable.
Struggling with nerves? Want to know how to beat them? Then Carrie Hope Fletcher is your girl! What’s better than advice from our honorary big sister?
