Since Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates is released in UK cinemas on August 10, this week we’re taking a look at the YouTube dating scene!
The dating world is complicated. Really complicated. You just won’t believe how mind-bogglingly complicated it is. We’ve seen quite a few disaster stories and worn far too many terrible shades of lipstick that we’re glad to find anyone who can give us some new tips and share battle stories.
And who better to commiserate with than our YouTube friends?! From makeup tips to awkward dating stories, we’ve put together a collection of videos that will help cure any worries about being alone in these things – apparently none of us know what we’re doing!
So here they are! Five of the Best: Videos About Dating!
Dinner Date Makeup – Lisa Eldridge
Let’s kick off this list with Lisa Eldridge, one of our go-to gurus for all things makeup! If you don’t already know Lisa, she is basically the Beyoncé of makeup, having worked with an impressive list of celebrities and advertisers. So who better to lean on to help us avoid potential date makeup disasters? We’ve officially stopped applying our winged eyeliner as if it’s going to help us fly!
We particularly love this look because, as she mentions, we’re trying hard without looking like we’re trying hard, so our date will think we’re effortlessly #flawless! This is also a fantastically natural style for those of us who look like we’ve dropped a whole palette on our face whenever we attempt a smoky eye. Thanks for making us stunning, Lisa! We have this bookmarked for every date we have from now ‘til forever!
Mothers Hijack Their Kids Tinder – Facts.
If you’ve never experienced a date disaster then not only are you super lucky (no cringeworthy moments to keep you up at night!) but you might not know how the rest of us get ourselves into these sitcom-esque situations. For example, letting your mum hijack your Tinder like Facts. did is a surefire way to end up with some pretty strange dates!
We’re definitely curious what happened with Bruno, and if Robyn was flattered by that stellar compliment about her hair. And we certainly wouldn’t have swiped left on David the cookie king, we love cookies! We could talk about cookies all night long; at the very least we’d know we had something in common.
But we have to admit, we’re with Nicole on this one. We’d be worried, too, about dating people who don’t mind, what we’ll call, “creative” grammar choices! We finally appreciate all of those bizarre online flirting tricks we’ve learned over the years.
How NOT To Date – tyrannosauruslexxx
Lex Croucher isn’t just the dating hero we need, she’s the dating hero we deserve. Lex might be buttering the video toast with a heavy layer of sarcasm (best metaphor ever?) but we’ve never related so well to someone else’s dating woes. Disclaimer: sitting alone eating fistfuls of guacamole is actually our favourite Friday activity.
So Lex has put together a fabulous checklist that will tell us what exactly we’re doing wrong on our dates. Saying “I love you” to our spaghetti? Well, yes. Do we send sexy emojis? I mean, the badminton emoji is sexy, right? Are we Will Smith? Well we know all of the lyrics to the Fresh Prince theme song. Have we thought our date could hear our thoughts? Absolutely, but that hasn’t stopped us from quietly worrying about the amount of money they spent on their adult-sized light-up Velcro trainers.
We have also accidentally brought up our existential crisis to our Minotaur dinner partner. Alright, maybe dating that Minotaur wasn’t the best choice we’ve made. We’re definitely bookmarking this video, too. Maybe next time we’ll know to refrain from talking graphically about that toe thing. You know, that toe thing.
Dating Amy Schumer – Jack and Dean
Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs and Amy Freakin’ Schumer?! That’s a pretty magical combination. This video reminds us of that heartbreaking time we also asked Amy Schumer to a soiree and she also said no, but Jack and Dean’s comedic timing absolutely makes up for it. And we now know that the sorbet gift basket was probably our downfall.
We also never knew that we could be better than, well, anyone at small talk. Thanks for giving us that confidence boost, Dean! If you’ve ever fallen face-first while asking someone on a date, this video is a great way to commiserate. After all, even our wingman probably wouldn’t steal Amy from us!
Truth or Drink with My Ex! (Tim H) | Hannah Witton – Hannah Witton
If you could ask your ex any question, and we mean any question, what would it be? Well Hannah Witton and Tim Hautekiet got together to do just that! From emotional questions to sexual queries, their openness with each other and us (and Dodie Clark, much to her dismay!) gave us a really fascinating look at how we all experience relationships subjectively.
We also appreciate Tim’s point that sexual attraction does not mean that two people can’t be genuine friends. And that’s great, Hannah and Tim are totally friendship goals, especially after this video.
So there you have it…
You now have a YouTube pick-and-mix for all of your dating needs! So find yourself a cool person (not a Minotaur), have a bite to eat and check out Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates when it comes out in UK cinemas on August 10!
