The UK’s first cat video festival will take place in London on 25 November 2016.
The Catnip Festival is to be held at the Coronet Theatre in Elephant and Castle. The event’s official website states: “Statistically 15% of all internet traffic is cat related, so, isn’t it about time you take our fury [sic] overlords seriously.”
Among the highlights listed are DJ sets, feline cabaret, a cat meme gallery, and interactive games. The Facebook event page hints at special guests, and the full lineup is to be announced later in the year.
Catnip are also calling on fans to help curate a list of London’s best cat videos by suggesting their favourites. Anyone submitting a video will have a chance to win free tickets to the festival.
There are five award categories, including:
- Best Singer
- Mightiest Action Hero
- Cutest Catnap
- Most Cunning Saboteur
- Greatest Acrobat
The event has already generated excitement among cat video enthusiasts with one fan saying: “This is like, the BEST THING EVER on the internet so far in the history of the internet.”
Early bird tickets are on sale on the Catnip website starting at £12.95 and 15% of the profits go to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.
