Former London mayoral candidate and Labour peer, Oona King, has been hired by YouTube as their Global Director of Diversity.
Oona has previously worked for seven years as Diversity Executive for UK-based broadcasting company, Channel 4.
She is also stepping down from her position as Baroness of Bow in the House of Lords, a seat she held since 2011, and will be moving to San Fransisco to take up her new role.
When asked about her move from traditional broadcasting to online media, Oona said: “I see YouTube as the future of broadcasting. It brings opportunities and challenges to content providers and it will be fascinating to see how YouTube and a younger generation will redefine media consumption.”
She also added that this move would be “an amazing opportunity to go where the most exciting ideas are coming from.”
