In what universe is it possible that meeting the parents is the best thing ever? The YouTuniverse, of course!
We thought we couldn’t handle anymore adorable family collaborations, but boy, were we wrong. How is it that YouTube parents are the sweetest and funniest on the planet? We had no idea! But if we wish hard enough, maybe they’ll adopt us!
We love getting a glimpse at the cool people who helped our faves become such awesome humans. We always knew parents were inherently adorable, but these five videos make us want to grab our mums and dads and make some videos of our own. Maybe we’ll give them a call after this – they have been pestering us for at least a month now.
So here they are! Five of the Best: Parent Collaborations.
Jim vs Jim’s Mum | Jim Chapman
This isn’t the first time we’ve been introduced to Jim Chapman‘s mum, but it’s certainly one of the funniest. Judy is not only the all-time official champion of the cotton ball challenge (even with help, we’ve seriously never seen someone do so well at it), but also great at playing along with a little bit of sass.
Now, we’ve done the beanboozled challenge before and we have to say, Judy is an absolute trooper. Those dirt jellybeans? Pretty terrible. And we’re just as competitive when it comes to hand games. It wouldn’t be a parent collab without a little bit of guilt-tripping to win some classic YouTube challenges.
We’re glad we finally know who the reigning Chapman is!
Tipsy Talk with Helen Hayes | ChewingSand
If we’re pulling out some classic Jim from 2014, then we definitely have to include some classic Hazel Hayes. We love this video not only for the Lego tripod, but also for how candid and homey their chat feels. Our mums forgot to put sugar in some cookies they were baking last week and gave us the same explanation, so we’ve never related more to such sarcastic bants (of course, the TenEighty mums get together to have their own monthly bake-offs, as they’re practicing to be the Star Baker on The Great British Bake Off).
We don’t often see parent collabs shift to darker topics, but we so appreciate hearing Hazel’s perspective on her experience with her mum’s illness. It’s an important topic and a valuable conversation for our community. We’re so very glad Mama Hayes is doing well.
We also adore how Helen and Hazel get so distracted by their conversation that it seems almost as though they’ve forgotten the camera is even recording. It reminds us of the cosy chats over tea we have whenever we go home. That apple pie didn’t need any sugar – Helen is sweet enough!
Prank Calling My Mum | danisnotinteresting
It may have been an unintentional and unexpected collab, but we just had to include Dan Howell‘s prank phone call to his mum. First of all, we need some more backstory here: how did the bat get into the apartment? How long did it take Dan to notice the bat? Did they name the bat? Details are everything!
We love that Mama Howell suggests Dan throw a towel or a sheet over the bat, but doesn’t that count as physical activity? Are we sure Dan would be up for that? Again, so many questions! We’re with Louise Pentland and Dan on this one, we never knew some bats were protected. That’s some parental wisdom for you!
The power of suggestion is everything and that’s never been truer than the casual mention of a parrot falling down a chimney. We don’t know much about Mama Howell, but boy, does she sound like she’s led quite a fabulous life! Watching this video, we were all Louise, and we genuinely don’t know how she didn’t break their cover with howling laughter (see what we did there? #Punz).
Shocking Lie Detector Test | Caspar
If Judy Chapman thought Jim’s hand game was cruel, then she hasn’t met Caspar Lee! While that shock looks terribly painful, Mama Lee’s reactions are priceless. Paired with Caspar’s cheeky questions, this is another collab that kept us laughing the whole way through.
We have to admit, we were impressed by Caspar’s bravery in the face of a potential shock. We don’t think we’ve heard anticipatory screams hit such a high register. The best part? Mama Lee getting in on the game. Thanks for asking the questions we all wanted answered!
My Dad Does Prank Calls | ThatcherJoe
Joe Sugg is the master at both prank videos and family collabs, so when he finally got the elusive Daddy Sugg to appear on camera, we knew it was going to be phenomenal. We’ve never seen such fabulous ears or luscious grey locks. The best thing about this video is how willing Daddy Sugg is to prank Oli White!
Faking that broken signal had us in stitches and he held that whistle for so long! Now, we don’t live in a village, but if Oli is used to that kind of terrible reception, we think we’ll heed his off-the-cuff advice.
Daddy Sugg might not be impressed with Joe’s impression, but we certainly are. And we have to agree with Oli, we’re glad Joe wasn’t captured either!
So there you have it…
We’ve been inspired to head home for Sunday roast with our parents and give them some big hugs! And maybe we’ll call our mums more often. When they’re not busy baking together they’re always texting us to check in more often, and to be honest, we probably should.
