Poet and YouTuber Suli Breaks will be bringing his Not A Role Model spoken word show to London this August.
Set for 25 August, the show will see Suli Breaks taking the audience on a “metaphorical bus journey into his life, as he discusses issues such as growth, falling in love, growing up in inner city London, education, passion, adversity, and his path to success”.
The performance, which is Suli’s first at London’s The Rock Tower, will be a culmination of his latest work, which documents his experiences over the past few years. It will feature video and live music alongside spoken word.
Suli expressed his excitement for the upcoming show, saying: “Hopefully it should be my greatest show yet. Performing a lot of new material so really am excited about the night.
“Live performance is something I love to do and have always done,” he added. “I suppose YouTube and creating videos was just a medium to get my pieces further out there. Plus I love meeting those I perform for after the shows.”
Suli went on to explain the difference he finds between performing in public and creating videos for YouTube. “There are certain pieces I could perform on video but not necessarily perform in public, and vice versa,” he said. “Could be because of the length of the poem, but could simply be because a piece could translate well through one medium but not the other.”
Speaking to TenEighty in April, Suli also mentioned how the London show would be the precursor to others, as he aims to hold similar events throughout the UK, and potentially bring the show to viewers worldwide. “God willing, that’s the aim!” he said.
