YouTuber and British GQ columnist Jim Chapman is the host of the new video series Luxury of Less.
Jim Chapman has teamed with with British GQ to launch the online video series Luxury of Less. Centred around male fashion, the three-part series sees Jim exploring the concept of “less is more” when it comes to the items typically seen in a man’s wardrobe: the watch, shirt, and suit.
“GQ have been in the process of creating video for a while now,” says Jim, speaking with TenEighty. “They approached me with the idea of Luxury of Less and we worked on how exactly it should look together.”
Throughout the series, viewers will be following Jim as he looks into the behind-the-scenes operations of various clothing companies, to see if it’s really worth splurging on designer brands, or if it’s better to head to High Street instead.
The series premiered on 23 February, with the debut episode seeing Jim visit the cutting rooms of Savile Row’s Gieves & Hawkes to explore what sets a bespoke suit apart from its counterparts.
“The team were all delightful and I’m genuinely interested in the subject matter,” says Jim. “It’s the type of content I can’t make on my own, so every day was kind of like a field trip with cameras.
“The journey you see me go through on screen is true to life,” he continues. “I had no idea why certain items cost as much as they do, so I was learning as we filmed.”
Jim began working with GQ in 2014 and has gone on to write articles and produce vlogs for the magazine.
“It’s a really vibrant and creative industry, and I love being a part of it,” he says. “Everyone wears clothes, so it’s accessible to anyone who shows an interest. I’ve always been interested, and it’s amazing how what you wear can really affect how you feel.”
To conclude, Jim hopes to see Luxury of Less come back for a second series: “I bumped into a few of the GQ guys recently and they all said they loved it, so hinted towards a second series. Fingers crossed!”
New episodes of Luxury of Less will be premiering on the British GQ YouTube channel every Tuesday until 8 March.
