Wakey-wakey, everyone. Hands up if you stayed up watching the Oscars last night?
You must be feeling pretty tired, huh? Well, don’t worry, we’ve got you. As ever, we’ve been scouring the internet for some of the finest pieces of content, much like our own Oscars, really. Only weekly. And without the awards ceremony. Or Leonardo DiCaprio. Or the fancy outfits…
Shh! It worked in our heads, k?
And now, for your consideration, here are the nominees…
Rock Paper Scissors Hammer Helmet: Game On – Tom Scott
If there’s one thing that YouTube has been missing, it’s a good old-fashioned game show. Luckily, that’s just what Tom Scott has now brought to the table. Well, that and an inflatable hammer and a helmet. Over the next six weeks, six competitors will be testing their skills, and first to the table are two of our favs, Emma Blackery and Steven Bridges!
We’ve all played a bit of rock paper scissors in our time, but add in a hammer and a helmet and things get a lot more competitive. (We might have to have a game or two of this over at TenEighty HQ, so if you don’t hear from us for a while, you know what we’re up to!)
Youth – Troye Sivan Cover – Ryan Harman
You know those days when all you need is a super-chill version of a Troye Sivan song? Well, Ryan Harman has just the video for those days. We’ve been a little bit (read: a LOT) obsessed with this song for a while now, and all Ryan’s doing is adding fuel to that fire. Not that we’re complaining, of course!
Now, if you don’t mind we’re just going to sit here with our headphones on. Definitely not listening to this again, that would be silly!
My Stretch Marks – Mandeville Sisters
Here at TenEighty HQ, we often see videos about body confidence pop up and it’s always great to hear YouTubers talking about their experiences with such personal topics.
As such, we are super proud of Amelia Mandeville for this brave video talking about her stretch marks and her own body confidence issues. It’s always heartening to see someone speak up and turn a negative into a positive, and this message deserves to be spread far and wide!
Quiet – alittlepickle
We had to take a moment to stop and watch this gorgeous little film by Aimie Stacey a couple of times, because it’s just so gosh darn relaxing. And we never say “gosh darn”! Seriously though, with calm music, pretty shots of the sea and a bit of narration, this is just what we need to lull us into the welcome calm that is Monday evening…
Aimie’s channel is full of beautiful little films just like this, and we can’t wait to see more of them in the future.
January – Daniel J. Layton
Another week, more PMS, this time from Daniel J. Layton! We’ve taken quite a shine to the Pretentious Monthly Scrapbook trend that’s taken over YouTube in the last year, and love seeing each creator add their own individual spin on things.
Dan certainly doesn’t disappoint with this. His clips from January are interspersed with commentary in his familiar dry sense of humour, and at just 11 minutes long, the first instalment doesn’t feel like too much of a commitment. In fact, if anything, it’s left us wanting more. Especially more of that Hilary Clinton speech. (New idea: Drunk Politics with Daniel J. Layton? Anyone?)
Still in Oscars recovery mode? Here’s some more things!
Pete Bucknall came up with this stunning cover of Out There before he jetted off to Disneyworld with Carrie Hope Fletcher (and began to make us very jealous with all their holiday snaps on Instagram. Grrr…)
Our inner Harry Potter fangirls were super excited to see this Ravenclaw makeup tutorial from Cherry Wallis rock up in our sub boxes, and even more excited to find out there are more coming: one for each house! Oh, we’re going to look so snazzy.
Clare Cullen made a fantastic video about the Irish election. We may not be experts on Irish politics by any means, but this video is VERY clever indeed, and well worth your time!
