Melanie Murphy has announced she’ll be hosting the YouTuber chat show, Culture Chat.
The show will focus on how standards and perceptions of beauty are different throughout the world. As she explained in her #MelaniesMoments video Perceptions of Beauty, “I always think about that a lot. How different people and different cultures see totally different things as beautiful in women.”
Speaking with TenEighty, Melanie explains how she hopes the show will help broaden viewers’ perspectives:
“[I hope it will] challenge a lot of people’s views on beauty,” she says, “and will show that there is no one solid definition of beauty, but rather, it’s completely subjective. Many of us live inside our own little bubbles and are happily oblivious to the diversity of life and the variety of opinions and viewpoints out there! When we explore these or even open up our imaginations to them, it can be really beneficial and can help us to grow as individuals.”
Culture Chat, which will be available on the mobile TV network app Verizon GO90, will feature various YouTubers, such as Canadian vlogger Kassie Isabelle and US vlogger Nikki Phillippi. The show will involve Melanie and guests reacting to and discussing Culture Chic, a show that follows US vlogger Sonya Esman as she explores different lifestyles and cultures around the world. Topics explored include transgender beauty pageants in Thailand, waist training in New York, and the act of wearing neck rings to elongate the neck.
When asked about how she found her first presenting experience, Melanie says:
“[It was] really intimidating at first… I’m usually such a conversationalist. However, this was more about the opinions of the guests, so I was trying to avoid interjecting. I wanted their honest thoughts to unfold on camera, without my influence. It’s tough, but after a couple of practice runs I found my stride and it was pretty exciting!”
As of now, a release date for Culture Chat has yet to be announced. However, Melanie states that “it’ll be up soon”.
