We did it, you guys!! We made it to February! January was a bit of a roller-coaster, wasn’t it?
But among the highs, lows, and bits that just made us scream, it’s got to be said there have been some seriously great videos out giving January a good send-off. We’ve had original songs, covers, vlogs and even children’s books, and it’s been oh so hard to pick just a few. But just for you (yes, you!), we’ve picked our favs from the last week and compiled them into a lovely little list. So keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle, it’s now time for a ride on the Weekly Round-Up.
My Face – Dodie Clark
Let’s kick things off with a song, shall we? Hello Dodie Clark, we really like your face. Both the song and your actual face, that is.
Seriously though, Dodie’s done it again and written another earworm and managed to combine it with a ton of makeup looks that are, quite frankly, #goals. We strongly recommend you go and listen to this. Then listen again. We promise you’ll be singing along to it by the third play! And if you’re not, well you’ll just have to listen again, won’t you?!
Donald Trump And The Wig Of Evil – Guy Larsen
Can we please just stop for a moment and appreciate that Guy Larsen hasn’t just made a video, but a whole bloomin’ picture book to go with it?! Seriously, we’re impressed. Don’t be fooled by this one though, it’s perhaps not one to play to your younger family members, it gets a little bit dark. Yep, Guy’s gone all political on us and offered us an explanation for why Trump is, well, Trump. And a pretty good explanation it is too! We always did think that hair was a bit suspect.
If story-time with Guy is becoming a thing, then we are totally on board.
I Call My Dad With Good News – Clisare
Let’s be honest, we’ve seen our fair share of book announcements in the last year or so, but this video from Clare Cullen is so heartwarming we couldn’t possibly miss it out. It’s rare that we see a reaction from someone as soon as they’ve got the news that their book has been published, let along that we hear them letting their parents know their good news!
We yippee’d and yoohoo’d along with Clare’s dad as she told him her good news and can’t wait to see the finished book! (Also, “yippee” and “yoohoo” are now our new favourite reactions fyi. Just watch us…)
Bad Actors 2 – Joel and Lia
Ngl, we’ve watched this a few times and now our stomach muscles hurt a little bit from all the laughing. Our pals Joel Wood and Lia Hatzakis have produced this super funny sketch about actors Tom and Freya featuring some rather inventive Shakespeare (or should that be Shakewhatever?) and a great little twist. “Hast thou doth seen this man is proper bleeding everywhere?” should definitely be used by the RSC in their next modern day adaptation too.
We say MORE SKETCH COMEDY on YouTube! Keep ’em coming, guys. Keep ’em coming.
Wetsuit – The Vaccines (Becky CJ Cover) – Becky CJ
We started with a song, so why not finish with one too? We just can’t stop listening to Becky CJ‘s version of Westuit by The Vaccines. We always love Becky’s covers, but this one has really struck a chord with us (#sorrynotsorry). If you need us, we’ll be listening to this on repeat until the next Round-Up is out, k?
Want one more go round?
For more music, Bethan Leadley has gone and done a lovely cover of Halsey’s Control, which features lots of layers of vocals and a tiny keyboard. It’s seriously pretty, so go and listen!
Lucy Moon gave us a lovely and very aesthetically pleasing tour of her favourite places in London, and now we want to go and eat all the food and drink all the coffee.
And finally, Carrie Hope Fletcher vlogged from the Dress Circle of the Queen’s Theatre and had a proper little chat with us about her countdown to the end of her run as Eponine in Les Miserables and hit us with a bit of nostalgia about Paddington Bear.
