Like a squirrel coming out of hibernation, there’s been a sudden flurry of activity in the world of YouTube this week.
Seriously, we can’t quite keep up! We’re only three weeks into 2016, and we’ve already had a book announcement, a film announcement, two singles released, and a whole heap of videos. At this rate we’ll need another holiday just to take it all in!
Over at TenEighty HQ we have a sneaking suspicion that this is going to be another Very Good Year for UK YouTube, and we can’t wait to see what everyone has up their collective sleeve. Or individual sleeves. Whatever floats your boat.
So without further ado, bring on the new videos that landed in our sub box this week!
Lost Angeles – Maisie Peters
Maybe it’s the fact that it’s sunny outside or maybe it’s the fact that this song is just so damn lovely, but we’re getting some serious summertime vibes from Maisie Peters. As a relative newcomer to YouTube land, Maisie has already released a string of seriously catchy songs and we can’t wait to see what’s up next. One thing’s for certain though: Maisie is one to watch.
Now don’t mind us, we’ll just be sitting here dreaming of LA and sunshine and summer. And while we’re doing that, we suggest, no, DEMAND that you give Maisie’s songs a listen. Yep. Demand. We’re demanding now.
Moving to London Advice – Hannah Witton
Is it a Q&A? Is it a travel vlog? Is it an advice video? No, it’s a combination of the three! Right, that wasn’t quite as catchy as Superman’s whole bird/plane thing, but bear with us on this one…
Moving to London can be a scary prospect, but Hannah Witton has used her experience to answer all your burning questions about making the move, from renting a flat to getting home on a night out and dealing with the crowds on public transport. And while some vloggers might have stayed in the comfort of their rooms for this, Hannah goes the extra mile by taking us (and Dodie Clark!) on a little tour of London’s sights to accompany her solid advice. Ooh, she’s almost making us want to do a bit of touristing ourselves! If you can’t find us, we’re probably staring at Elizabeth Tower. That’s what Big Ben is housed in. Look at us with our London knowledge.
Re-Inventing Myself – Jake Dudman
We’re going to put it out there: we’re not quite sure what happened here. All we know is we clicked on a video expecting to hear about how Jake Dudman is planning on re-inventing himself, and suddenly there’s cyborg Jake, a banana that becomes a phone and then a gun and a Star Wars joke that definitely didn’t make us snort tea out of our nose in a rather painful way. We’re far more composed than that. *cough*.
Whatever did happen though, we kind of like it. Apart from the tea incident. Let’s not talk about that again.
NEWSFLASH! Britain Is Cold In The Winter – TinyBagProductions
We Brits love to talk about the weather. Hell, you’ve probably noticed enough just in the Round-Up. It’s like a condition. We can’t stop! And neither it seems, can Frances Morrow-Brown of TinyBag Productions. We had a proper giggle at Frances’ descriptions of British Snowmen (a very specific type of snowman, we’ll have you know!) and why England is constantly crying rain (spoiler alert: it’s middle child syndrome).
Serious question though Frances: who exactly IS in the bean bag? And did they ever bring you hot chocolate? THESE QUESTIONS NEED ANSWERS!
Making Films With No Money – MoreTimH
Last but certainly not least, Tim Hautekiet has been handing out some very valuable advice for aspiring filmmakers on making films with no budget. This one’s definitely worth a watch if you’re wanting to get into filmmaking but are limited to your iPhone, as Tim talks through his advice for the creative process, sourcing a location and letting us into a few of his secrets on how he recreated Vietnam for his 2013 production, Project Library.
Looking for a bit more?
We couldn’t let the week go by without mentioning the seriously epic video for Marcus Butler‘s new single I’m Famous featuring none other than his pal Conor Maynard.
Louise Pentland has given us serious #lifegoals by vlogging her day as she went live on TV for Blue Peter. We always wanted a Blue Peter badge growing up. Who do we contact about getting one now?
Finally Niki Albon went solo and talked about being an introvert. It’s well worth a watch.
Think we’ve missed anything? Why not let us at @TenEightyUK on Twitter or TenEighty UK on Facebook.
