The vlogger is the star of fine arts photographer Linda Blacker’s latest photo series.
Late last year, fine arts photographer Linda Blacker teamed up with Carrie Hope Fletcher for a mystical, fairy-themed photoshoot that told the story of a secret world in need of protection from humans. Now, Linda has teamed up with Louise Pentland to bring to life the tale of the Snow Queen.
“The Snow Queen is one of my all-time favourite characters and stories,” says Linda, speaking with TenEighty. “She has been recreated so many different times that the idea of the Snow Queen [herself] can bring so many visual ideas! When I approached Louise, I had the Snow Queen set in my mind as, for me, the character and Louise compliment each other perfectly!”
The photoshoot is the latest of Linda’s YouTuber Christmas Collaborations which, along with Carrie’s shoot, also include 2014’s Alice in Wonderland-inspired photo series.
Asked why she opted to work with Louise, Linda says: “Louise has a vibrant personality, beautiful looks and a colourful fashion sense. To take someone like Louise and turn them into a fairytale character is very exciting and so much fun, because I already have the energy and basis for a wonderful ‘character’ before me!”
The photos in the series were released in four parts, with the first photo published on 18 December and the final one on 24 December. To help bring the Snow Queen to life, Linda teamed up with makeup artists Paul Rodgers and Marc Zapanta, and even received the assistance of four Alaskan Malamutes.
The images tell the story of the Snow Queen, who guards a land of ice and snow known as the White Kingdom. It is a home for “old souls” – magical creatures who have passed on into the afterlife. Their souls come to rest in the bodies of the Queen’s wolves and live a peaceful existence after their physical one has ended.
“The Queen guards these wolves from the ever-present threat of humans wanting to invade the White Kingdom and absorb the magic of the old souls,” Linda explains. “In this story, we see how the Snow Queen reacts to the invasion of humans and how she defends the realm!”
The aforementioned YouTubers In Wonderland images saw Linda working with the likes of Jack Howard, Helen Anderson, Gary C and more, and she works frequently with Niki and Sammy Albon. When asked why she likes working with YouTubers, she says:
“To turn a well-known online personality into a character from a fairytale can create quite a reaction! It is so lovely seeing the excitement from their audiences, as their favourite YouTuber is seen in a completely different – but magical – way! For me, the reaction from those who see my work is the most important part!”
Those interested in viewing the photos in full quality, or more of Linda’s work in general, can do so by visiting her official website and Instagram page. Marc’s work can be found by visiting his YouTube channel.
