Gary has announced Walking Wounded, a six-song EP set for release on 16 December.
Walking Wounded was announced as part of Gary‘s annual “Birthday Wish” series where, each year, he asks his audience to contribute to either a charity or an up-and-coming YouTuber’s success. This year, Gary hopes his viewers will allow him a chance at music, with the EP being his birthday wish for 2015.

“I’ve wanted to put out an EP for nearly nine years as a YouTuber,” says Gary, speaking with TenEighty, “but a fear of failure and a huge helping of self-doubt stopped me. Dave Giles has been instrumental (no pun intended) in making this EP a reality. He told me I could do it and, what’s more important, I trusted him. That’s all it took to believe in myself and make it happen.”
All six songs on the EP were written by Dave and Gary, with Dave also producing the release. It is set to be released in mid-December via indie label We’re Not Just Cats Records, and will be Gary’s debut musical release.
“The EP is a mix of drama, hurt and hope. It’s essentially my essence poured into six songs,” Gary explains. “Each of the six songs depicts different relationships (or lack thereof) with either myself or those close to me over a period of ten years.
“An underlying theme would be unrequited love,” he continues. “It’s certainly followed me about enough! I think it’s time to speak on it and share a little piece I’ve been scared to reveal before. People know I suffer from mental illness, but my vulnerability lies in my dedication to my friends.”

Walking Wounded is currently available for physical pre-sale until 25 November. Those who pre-order the EP will be entered into a contest to win one of 10 hand-painted giraffes, similar to the one featured on the cover. Following the release, Gary hopes to film and premiere the music video for lead single, “Keep Going”.
Discussing why he chose to make Walking Wounded this year’s birthday wish, he says:
“This year, I felt like it was my time to do something, rather than dream about it. Many of my YouTubian friends have gone on to be incredibly successful, having shows, books, films, clothing lines and even waxworks in Madam Tussauds’! I’ve sat by and wanted to be brave, create and share my voice. It feels like now is my time. Funnily enough, it’s why I started YouTube in the first place. I only ever wanted to sing and entertain people.”
Overall, the initial response to Walking Wounded has been positive, with friends, viewers and fellow YouTubers sharing their support online. Those wishing to purchase the EP can do so now via the We’re Not Just Cats Records’ website or through a digital outlet on 16 December.
