It’s a fairly well known fact that us internet folk are indoor dwellers, emerging only for YouTube conventions and a regular Nando’s fix. You may not know that once a year, YouTube throws a big ol’ party for all the media bigwigs with lots of cash to splash.
We may not have been there, but that won’t stop us doing what we do best: donning our investigative hat and trawling social media to find out exactly what went on!
1. The pre-show rumours were going a bit wild.
https://twitter.com/TashBedford/status/654027611492982784
We can just imagine the amended setlist: It’s Only YouTube (But I Like It), Jumping JacksGap, (I Can’t Get No) Collaborations. Sadly, the rumours were unfounded. Well, you can’t always get what you want…
2. Some people still had a bit to learn.
Ah.. grace helgin presenting at the Google #Brandcast event… Am I old cos I have no idea who she is ..damn you 33 pic.twitter.com/KEl68WOtyx
— Dylan Wanigasekera (@DylanPeriscopix) October 13, 2015
To be honest, we have no idea who Grace Helgin is either, is this some new rising star TenEighty is missing out on, ARE WE LOSING OUR EDGE?
…oh, no, panic over, that is in fact Grace Helbig who was hosting Brandcast. Yeah, you might wanna do your homework next year Dylan. D-.
3. The UK is apparently leading the charge in the YouTube revolution!
"The UK has been at the forefront of the @YouTube revolution, with the biggest creators." @MattBrittin #Brandcast pic.twitter.com/3n6gJCIRMX
— David Black (@davidblack) October 13, 2015
Is it only us who can’t hear the word revolution without coming over all Les Mis and wanting to build a barricade and start singing?
DO YOU HEAR YOUTUBERS SING, SINGING A SONG OF ANGRY MEN*, IT IS THE MUSIC OF A PEOPLE WANTING THE SUB BOX FIXED AGAIN!
(*also women, non-binary people, and all other gender identities)
…Sorry. We got a bit carried away there. Returning to Brandcast….
4. There were facts which simultaneously blew our minds and didn’t surprise us. Which in turn caused our minds to implode.
100% of 15-34 year olds use YouTube #brandcast
— littledotstudios (@littledotstudio) October 13, 2015
Time spent watching @YouTube has gone up 60% in the last year – @MattBrittin #Brandcast pic.twitter.com/x2NlwKVhG8
— David Black (@davidblack) October 13, 2015
We’re enjoying the giant Paxman staring down the audience here. Paxman should start a vlog channel shouldn’t he? Imagine the collabs with all your favourite YouTubers.
5. There were also giant pictures of YouTubers on the stage…

— Matt Rigg (@JGMRigg) October 13, 2015
Well this is pretty cool. pic.twitter.com/5K7bSY5Ey7
— Joe Sugg (@Joe_Sugg) October 13, 2015
We never thought we’d see the day when giant pictures of Dan Howell, Phil Lester, Jack and Finn Harries, and Zoe and Joe Sugg were rolled out to woo big brands, but here they are. I mean honestly, the size of those pictures… the size of that stage… this is like Glastonbury for YouTubers!
6. No seriously, there were even more gigantic pictures of YouTubers…
"Broadcast Yourself"
Here we go @YouTube #Brandcast pic.twitter.com/Hv5EspmPvt— chris watt (@chriswatt44) October 13, 2015
One awesome stage! Bring on @GoogleUKBiz #Brandcast 2015 pic.twitter.com/LzmcYhyrmo
— Fintan Gillespie (@fintangillespie) October 13, 2015
Is it just us or does it look like a giant Grace is attacking the London landscape, while Tyler Oakley is left screaming in fear of the pending attack? OK, we’re letting out imagination run away with us…
7. Tom and Carrie Fletcher sang a song about vlogging and blew everyone’s minds!
Had a blast performing with my sis @CarrieHFletcher at #Brandcast tonight.
— Tom Fletcher (@TomFletcher) October 13, 2015
Impressed by @tommcfly & @CarrieHFletcher at #Brandcast pic.twitter.com/ZiJmuEcWhw
— Jerry Daykin (@jdaykin) October 13, 2015
Dammit now we really want these two to release an album together. It could even feature other YouTubers as guests on tracks too. MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
8. Our priorities are all the same. Phone charger, wifi, done.
Need battery charge! iPhone 6 help #Brandcast
— Matthew Lawson (@MJLawson1) October 13, 2015
Invest in a portable charger friend, that’s TenEighty’s advice to you.
9. The Sorted Food guys cooked for everyone.
Dinner served by YouTube sensation @sortedfood #brandcast pic.twitter.com/zULmG7lnII
— Marina Torres (@MarinaMtorres) October 13, 2015
Terminaron las presentaciones y ahora pasamos al morfi. Los Youtubers SORTEDfood prepararon el menú! #Brandcast pic.twitter.com/CKVrmvsNwq
— Flor Lujani (@FlorLujani) October 13, 2015
Look at that menu! We’re not jealous at all, no, we’re sure our clearance meal deals are much tastier…
10. Big brands were there to impress other big brands that YouTube is a big brand they should invest in
Buzzfeed's @f3cooper says you need to have 'beliefs that are right for the times' by using art & science #Brandcast pic.twitter.com/57Btaftwu7
— Campaign: Brands (@MarketingUK) October 13, 2015
More people watched the Wembley Cup on @YouTube in the UK than watched the Champions League final – @EE #Brandcast pic.twitter.com/Pe66WJoaTH
— David Black (@davidblack) October 13, 2015
Good to hear from @buzzfeed at #Brandcast. If I was a creative ad agency I'd be terrified of them. pic.twitter.com/oAeAXL4u4c
— Jonathan Beeston (@beeston) October 13, 2015
Hey! @BBCR1 is the most viewed radio station on Earth… On @YouTube . Rock on🎸#brandcast pic.twitter.com/wgR7SPkrvf
— Guy Phillipson (@GuyPhillipson) October 13, 2015
Pepsi, EE, BuzzFeed, BBC Radio 1… what is going on? Why is everyone there but us? OK, we’ll give you our money, OK!
11. Even “The Dress” got a mention.
"We create, distribute, learn and iterate" – @f3cooper from @BuzzFeed – @YouTube #Brandcast pic.twitter.com/oQN0Onjy1I
— David Black (@davidblack) October 13, 2015
It was BLUE AND BLACK, dammit!
12. There was glitter. Lots of glitter.
When you go to YouTube's #brandcast for work and come home with glitter in your hair 🙊
— Emily Whitehouse (@em_whitehouse) October 13, 2015
We have this problem at TenEighty HQ all the time. Whenever we go outside we leave a trail of glitter in our wake, like some kind of sparkly snail. Or something. *ahem* Anyway, we think we know who was to blame for covering Brandcast in it…
13. Rita Ora was there!
https://twitter.com/hashir/status/654071484948840448/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc^tfw
Totally fangirling over @RitaOra after tonight's #Brandcast party. What a gem 🎉🎉🎉 pic.twitter.com/59d1iR2Urv
— Kat Perriam (@katperriam) October 13, 2015
That’s right, Rita Ora was there to bring the party as well as the glitter. Looks rubbish doesn’t it? Not amazing at all? Nope. *cries into meal deal*.
14. Joe Hartland from Radio 1 came up with our new favourite phrase.
"Don't spurt out random acts of digital" Joe Harland from @BBCR1 #brandcast
— Hash Milhan (@hashir) October 13, 2015
If only we had the musical talent, we’d go and form a band called Random Acts of Digital right this instant.
15. There was a YouTube rap.
You've never truly heard a rap until it's about YouTube #Brandcast pic.twitter.com/kTcCTwXSFh
— Sam Gillies (@samuelgillies) October 14, 2015
This is so much better than the attempts we’ve made at TenEighty HQ to bring these two things together. Like we said, no musical talent.
16. To be honest, Brandcast can all really be summed up in one tweet.
#Brandcast Wish I was there
— Roy Derrick (@royderrick) October 13, 2015
Us too, Roy. Us too.
