The last day, already?
We’d been having such a blast on Creator Day and Saturday that we couldn’t quite believe it was already Sunday. Still though, there was still bundles to do and see. Let’s recap Sunday at Summer in the City 2015 the day in pictures!
We started our day with Luke Cutforth signing magazines and posters at our stand. You didn’t know we had posters? Well we did just for Summer in the City. They showcased all the cover interviews we’ve had since we started back in April 2014. We’re hoping someone had the time to go round and get everyone on it to sign it (if you did, plz send us a photo of it!).
Selfie? No. Hug? No. Would you like anything signed? No. Can I stroke your face? Sure! So much for the creator/viewer divide, Luke was kind enough to let his fans invade his personal space. What a star. More pictures of this signing here.
We don’t know how he does it. Tom Burns, the founder and organiser of Summer in the City, also found time to meet-and-greet his fans alongside his girlfriend Jamie Jo. What a guy!
The first panel of the day was a Filmmaking Q&A with PJ Liguori and his co-Oscar’s Hotel creators: Chris Kendall, Sophie Newton, Louis Grant and Jamie Sawrbrick. Mitchell Davis was meant to be there but was poorly, so he was replaced with a balloon-headed stick man. Read all about this panel here, or view more pictures here.
Down at the meet-and-greets it appears this fan has glued Dean Dobbs‘ hands together. Meanwhile, we’re not sure what Jack Howard is doing…
They’re back at it again! Tom and Jamie were on the Baking and Cooking Panel at Summer in the City, alongside Ben Ebbrell from SORTEDfood, Barry Lewis and Raphael Gomes. Read our full report of this panel here.
Both Laurbubble and Doug Armstrong were on point at their meet-and-greet. What beautiful smiles they have! For more meet-and-greet pictures click here.
The Anti-Bullying panel featured a bunch of TenEighty’s cover stars: Lindsay Atkin, Bethan Mary Leadley, Helen Anderson and Charlie McDonnell. Rebecca Brown and Jimmy Hill were also there, and together they shared their top 5 tips on how to deal with bullies. You can read those here.
Dodie Clark and Evan Edinger were giving us #FriendshipGoals over at the meet-and-greets. We’re glad Evan took a break from being punny during the weekend, we prefer him when he’s sweet. We have more meet and greet pictures here.
Following on from the Anti-Bullying panel, Charlie zipped over to the TenEighty stand to sign copies of the magazine. He’s on the cover you know, and you currently can’t find our interview anywhere else than in the physical magazine. You can pick a copy up from Fireflight Merch here.
Melanie Murphy here talking about spreading positivity in her videos. She was on the Mental Health panel alongside Luke Cutforth, Tom Ridgewell, Morgan Paige, Leena Normington and Rebecca Brown. You can read all about this panel here, or see more pictures here.
Candice Cathers here on the BookTube panel. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to get down there to write up a report on this one, but if we did, we would’ve loved to hear what they all thought about the recent YouTuber book trend. Honestly, surely this lot should be getting book deals!
Carrie Hope Fletcher and her glowing smile made it down to the meet-and-greets and posed with cheeky chappy (and her boyfriend) Pete Bucknall. For more meet and greet pictures click here.
There’s our guy! TenEighty’s Co-Editor Alex Brinnand hosted the Coming Out Panel which featured Mark Ludford, Lewis Parker, Savannah Brown and Jimmy Hill. We have a write up of this one too, and more pictures here.
Daniel Dobbs hit the main stage for one of his five appearances. That’s right, he was on the main stage four times accompanying other YouTubers on top of this, his very own set. What a busy and hardworking guy! More pictures of his set here.
Well the Let’s Talk About Sex panel was widely controversial, not for its content, but for how poorly managed it was. It featured Laci Green, Hannah Witton, Benjamin Cook, Bethan Mary Leadley and Tom Ridgewell. It appeared the main problem with the panel was that the lady who chaired it – who was from sexual health charity BPAS – had no clue who her panellists were, her questions weren’t YouTube-oriented and they weren’t inclusive of a wider spectrum of sexual identities. Read all about it here and we have more pictures here.
Cherry Wallis was about the place too, here taking photos with fans over at the meet-and-greet area. The boots, the way that cardigan-thing hangs on here, the subtle smile… yes Chezza, you’re on point. More meet and greet pictures here.
The Online Safety panel featured Gary C, Eman Kellam, Melanie Murphy, Savannah Brown and was chaired by Chris Foxx. The panel featured lots of tips and stories about how best to keep yourself safe online. You can read about it here, or check out more pictures here.
Oh Melanie Murphy, what a stunner you are! Even when you’re sitting peacefully contemplating what another panellist is saying, you’re still breaking hearts with your looks.
A bit of fun with Helen Anderson, she never lets a photographer catch her off guard. She knows we’re watching, and she’s got her eye on us! We’ve got more pictures from the meet and greets here.
Everyone’s favourite friendly giant Dave Giles hit the main stage and it was a pleasure to see him again. Not too long ago Dave announced that he was leaving behind making regular content on YouTube; it was a very sad day. So to know he’s happy to pop in and sing a few songs for us from time to time was really heartwarming. We have more pictures of this here!
The Women on YouTube Panel had an amazing line-up this year with Theadora Lee, Lucy Moon, Jana Damanhouri, Dodie Clark, Cherry Wallis and Laci Green. It was chaired by Lex Croucher. You can read all about this panel here or check out more pictures of it here.
Sass like no other. Mamrie Hart was down at the meet-and-greets and – just like Helen – she spotted our camera and was ready to strike. BAM. She took us to Mame-Town! For more meet-and-greet pictures click here.
What a cheeky little smirk! Hannah Witton was on the Education on YouTube panel alongside Michael Stevens and Jake Roper from Vsauce, and Tom Scott. It was chaired by Jazza John…
The panel saw the YouTube educators admit that they weren’t experts in their fields, they were all just really good at researching and writing scripts. Well, there was a lot more to it than just that, so why not read about this panel here or check out more pictures of it.
Bethan Leadley down at her meet-and-greet. We’ve noticed over time that Bethan has this very particular smile she does. Her cheeks perk up, her lips reveal her perfect teeth and her eyes say hello. She must’ve spent years learning from America’s Next Top Model because it’s on point.
*Cue rumbling music* Here it is! The one! The most controversial yet exciting panel at Summer in the City! The #YouTubeHonestyHour Panel! Inspired by the twitter trend earlier this year, TenEighty’s Co-Editor Teoh Lander-Boyce fired through screenshots of tweets from the wider YouTube community and put it to the star-studded panel. It featured Emma Blackery, Hazel Hayes, Daniel J Layton, Meghan Tonjes, Jack Dean and Benjamin Cook. Honestly, it was off the hook, and you can read all about what was said here. Alternatively check out these pictures.
Isn’t it nice to see Ciaran OBrien smile? This was the Working Behind The Camera panel with Matt Amys, Emily Diana Ruth, Louis Grant, Jamie Swarbrick and Lucy Moon. We have more pictures of this here.
It was time for a big announcement! PJ and Chris hit the main stage to reveal an exclusive about Oscar’s Hotel. Look at the sass on Chris’s face! We won’t spoil it, instead you can read what it was here. Or check out more pictures here.
And look! The whole team – including Mamrie – throwing out freebies from the main stage! We were lucky enough to catch one of these and it had a t-shirt, some stickers and those temporary tattoos we were after. They do spoil us at Summer in the City, don’t they!
Next up were Fearless Vampire Killers, rocking out the main stage. Kier, their singer, had appeared on the Music on YouTube panel the day before, find out what he had to say here. More pictures of main stage acts here.
Who cares about the big guns on YouTube? Lets celebrate Smaller YouTubers! It featured some of the YouTubers we selected for the TenEighty’s 2015 Shortlist such as Francesca Georgiou and Sam-E Locock, along with Jon Aitken, Ant Lightfoot and James Mitchell. Chaired by Ali Jardine, they even got an audience member and fellow creator up on stage to join the panel. Read all about this panel here.
What a stunner. Bethan Leadley hit the main stage and showed off another look she’s picked up over the years, the rockstar smoulder. And there’s Daniel Dobbs again – how is he still going at this point? That boy is a machine. We have more pictures from the main stage here.
Carrie Hope Fletcher was kind enough to pop down and sign some copies of TenEighty. Here she is posing with her own cover. There are still some available, if you’re interested, click here to view our Fireflight Merch store. Alternatively check out pictures of Carrie, Charlie and Luke at the TenEighty stand here.
Meghan Tonjes hit the main stage and showed everyone how it was done. We believe this was her first appearance performing in the UK and it was a pleasure to have her. Did you know she funds her albums and podcasts completely by Patreon? We didn’t, until we went down to the Funding Your Project panel (which took place on Creator Day). You can read about that here. Alternatively, check out more pictures from this set here.
As the end of the event drew closer Helen Anderson and her band Box of Light treated Summer in the City to a smoky set. We love Helen’s crazy fun energy, but when she performs that energy manifests into complete seduction. Look at her go! We have more pictures of this set here.
Closing off the night was none-other than Jonti ‘Weebl’ Picking, who fired through all of his viral hits such as Amazing Horse, Narwhals and Badgers. We’re not too sure what’s going on here, but usually there’s no point questioning when it comes to Weebl’s mad world. We have more pictures of main stage acts here.
We must admit that by this point most of the TenEighty team were dancing like lunatics at stage side. Therefore we didn’t quite get as many pictures as we hoped of Weebl’s set. But hey! You have to forgive us for it. Most of our live team were cooped up in a room in the back throughout the event, churning out write-ups of panels and making sure you lot got all the coverage you needed. Sometimes you are all so demanding!
The #SITC2015 organisers on stage after the event 🎉

And that was that. A massive thank you to the organisers of Summer in the City 2015: Tom Burns, Dave Bullas, Liam Dryden, Jazza John and Luke Cutforth. We must admit that the move to ExCel Centre frightened us at first; we wondered if it was all too much, too soon. But it wasn’t. We say this every year, but honestly it was the best Summer in the City to date. Now how are you going to top that in 2016, boys?
