They don’t call this day Friday, oh no, they call it Creator Day!
Creator Day at Summer in the City was established last year. It’s a quieter day, a simpler affair. Let’s take a look back on its highlights, featuring familiar faces, industry panels and our introduction to Summer in the City 2015!
Well, you couldn’t get big banners like that at Alexandra Palace, could you? Summer in the City took place at the ExCel Centre this year and that meant better facilities for everyone and clearer instructions on where to go… as this banner shows.
The Music Industry panel featured Bethan Mary Leadley and Emma Blackery, two of our cover stars and our favs. It had some other people on it but we’re not too sure who they are (please tell us?!?!), so it’s probably best not to mention them. You can check out more pictures from this panel here.
Look at that jacket. Look at that flower crown. Look at how politely she raises her hand to ask a question. She’s at the Music Industry panel, right? Somebody get this girl a contract now because she’s a indie goddess in the making!
Meghan Tonjes was on the Funding Your Project panel, along with Emily Diana Ruth, and Jack Ferry and Melissa Schneider from New Form Digital. Meghan here is clearly trying to suss out what this guy is saying. She’s funded a lot of her career through Patreon, and this guy is unlikely to convince her there’s another better way of doing it. At least that’s what we think is happening here.
…And this is Melissa from New Form Digital. Basically she works for the company that have funded Bertie Gilbert, Tim Hautekiet, PJ Liguori, Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs, Benjamin Cook and Emily to make short films, among countless other big hitters in the US. We should all be celebrating this woman of vision-funding glory! Check out more pictures from this panel here, and read our recap here.
To be honest we’re slightly gutted we didn’t get a picture of loads of YouTubers on this. Nevertheless, rides such as this colourful contraption, bumper cars and trampolines were welcome additions to Summer in the City. Next year there better be a bouncy castle and a mini-rollercoaster.
Lots of shade was thrown on the Networks Panel. Like lots and lots. It’s safe to say that while YouTubers rely on them, there are many horror stories within the community, and bad experiences leads to shady talk. Look at Laura Bubble going in for the kill! Read our coverage of this panel here, or alternatively check out more pictures from it.
This man is Ali Jardine and he works for YouTube. Here he is passing on YouTube’s top tips on how to vlog, and looking bloody epic doing it. But then again, we reckon most people would look epic with a big screen behind them with loads of YouTube players embedded on it. We’re also loving that Britney mic.
EPIC! LOOK AT HIS POWER! OK, we know, we’re getting carried away. But these pictures are pretty cool, and we have more of them here.
Arts and crafts were a part of Summer in the City this year. Thanks to the size of the ExCel Centre, the event was really allowed to breathe and come alive. Those of you that remember Alexandra Palace (as great as it was) often the merch area would feel cramped. This year there was space for a real market-place feel. And of course Grumpy Cat and Keyboard Cat postcards were bound to go down well in our neck of the woods!
LOOK! LOOK! We are on a big screen. Enter Thea O’Hear. She’s quite a big deal at YouTube’s comms department. Honestly, we’re just flattered she included us during the PR & Media Management panel. So thank you Thea, we feel proper respected and stuff.
Somewhereto_ are this great company that enable creators to find locations for shoots. They’re so great, in fact, that they even hosted their own panel at Summer in the City and gave away these goody bags.
This was The Breaking Out Of The Bedroom panel, and it featured Tom Ridgewell, Tim H and Hazel Hayes, among others. Isn’t it great to see Tim and Hazel together again?! Look how they laughed! We have even more pictures of this panel here.
Now this was a good one! This was the Self-Shooting seminar. That’s right, seminar… not panel. Experts from the YouTube Space London taught attendees the best way to light themselves and got people up on stage to help out…
…them cheekbones! Look at that glow! They do know their stuff, don’t they?
It looks like everyone came away with some practical knowledge that can help them get to grips with their kits. And that’s what’s great about Creator Day, stuff like this. We have more pictures of this too, just click here!
This guy clearly didn’t attend the self-shooting seminar or any of the panels. He may have a big media-style camera, but he’s clueless. They’re cardboard cutouts of Dan and Phil, mate!
There he is! Our man! Co-Editor and Founder of TenEighty Magazine, Teoh Lander-Boyce. This was the first panel he’d ever hosted and look, we caught him playing with his ear, *headpalm*. It was theEthics & Creator Responsibilities panel and it featured Wot Fanar from NerdCubed, as well as…
Morgan Paige! And…
Dottie James! And…
TomSka!!! Read about that panel here, and check out the full photo set here.
Did you know we had our own stand? Yep, we did. Did you know we had our own magazine out? Uh-huh! It has Emma Blackery, Charlie McDonnell, Luke Cutforth and Carrie Hope Fletcher on the cover. Check out Fireflight Merch to see if there are still some in stock, no promises.
Ah! What a good end to a relaxing day: playing ukelele with Dodie Clark. Little did they know of the madness that would ensue the next day.
