E! Online made some passing comments about content creators. The internet fought back…
Team Internet took to Twitter recently in response to an article by digital news website E! Online. Posted on 17 August, the listicle 18 Moments From the 2015 Teen Choice Awards That Made Us Feel Super Old commented on some of the digital stars nominated at the annual awards show.
YouTubers featured in the show included Zoe Sugg, who won an award for Choice Web Star: Fashion / Beauty.
Among those mentioned in the article were YouTubers Joey Graceffa, Felix Kjellberg and Vine star Lele Pons.
The article quickly spread on Twitter and attracted attention.
if this "article" is representative of @eonline, I fear for the brand's future. https://t.co/3Q6RJuy1md

In response, the digital arm of E! Entertainment, which hosts The Grace Helbig Show starring US YouTuber Grace Helbig, commented from their Twitter account.
Remember that time we gave a YouTube star their own TV show? 🐸☕️ pic.twitter.com/XLjv9j5XUQ

The article also made comments about some of the stars outfits. “From the very start of the show we found ourselves saying “huh?” to pretty much everything that happened. We may even have exclaimed an errant ‘Is that really what you’re wearing?’ in reaction to the tiny skirts and crop tops that were all over the stage.”
The article was written by Seija Rankin, Editor of E! Online. She took to Twitter, commenting: “E! Online will be holding a Master Class in Sarcasm, and judging by Twitter post-Teen Choice Awards it seems like all of America needs it.”
@seijawrites @eonline except slut-shaming women for showing "so much skin" isn't funny

This is not the first story to garner criticism from the YouTube community for how it reports on the website and its users. Zoella’s success has been the subject of several articles, and last year Vice ran an article titled Vain and Inane: The Rise of Britain’s Dickhead Vloggers.
The article, which singled out Alfie for criticism, faced mass condemnation from the community. In reply TenEighty ran a response article, Biased and Brash: Why Mainstream Media Doesn’t Understand Vlogging.
