‘World of Superheroes’ is the new collaborative effort between YouTube Spaces and POW! Entertainment.
The programme will see participants creating original superhero concepts and content for their channels. Laurbubble, Hazel Hayes and Tom Scott are just some of the UK creators currently announced to be taking part.
Stan Lee, the creator of the X-Men, Avengers and Fantastic Four comic books and the CEO of POW! Entertainment, made the official announcement via video through the YouTube Spaces channel.
“Following on from the success of Guillermo del Toro’s involvement with Halloween, we wanted to unleash creators’ super creative minds within the superhero genre,” explains Kelly Graves, a member of the Creative Development team at YouTube Spaces EMEA, “POW! has an amazing YouTube channel and who better to collaborate with than Stan Lee?! These guys have the best knowledge when it comes to creating and building characters for superheroes or villains.”
For the project, YouTube Spaces in London, Tokyo, Los Angeles, New York and Sao Paulo will be decked out with cinematic quality sets and green screen equipment for creators within the programme to use. London’s will be based around a science lab and will have a futuristic weapons locker. Realm Pictures and Gorton Studios will also be holding seminars and workshops around props, effects and prosthetics, as well as copyright law and trademarking, to aid in the creation of the participants’ visions.
Based on their concepts, a select group of creators will receive script consultations with the POW! development team, where an even smaller group will win a script consultation with Stan Lee himself. The final videos are due to go live on personal channels throughout June and July and will be promoted on Lee’s World of Heroes YouTube channel. A select few will also be presented as part of Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles later this year.
“I’m looking forward to seeing productions from all [the] YouTube creators that have signed up,” says Kelly. “We certainly have some excellent ideas coming through. However, Laurbubble – she is just so funny and her collaboration with NikiNSammy has me giggling just hearing what she has planned!”
