It’s going to be OK, you know. It really is. All the hype has peaked and soon it’ll be over. People are already moving on with their lives as if it never happened, and within a few weeks we’ll all be able to forget about it.
We are, of course, referring to the Fifty Shades Of Grey premiere. Put it to the back of your mind, and dive into the better half of YouTube to find out what interesting things have been happening this past week.
TRANS WORDS – Alex Bertie
Alex Bertie might possibly be the raddest trans dude ever. With complete honesty he takes us through a selection of terms associated with the trans community and explains why he views them so negatively.
The words themselves range from the widely used T-word to others that have significance because they refer to parts of the human body, which some trans people may find problematic to think about, let alone discuss.
But while it’s a pretty serious topic, Alex presents it all with humour. And now we think about it, we totally agree that calling whatever’s between your legs your ‘junk’ makes everything so much simpler. Nice one, Alex. JUNK.
Fear Of Missing Out – Steven Bridges
Did you know that FOMO (fear of missing out) is a recognised social anxiety? Steven Bridges explains all and reflects on his own experiences with the condition, including discovering it in the first place and how great it was to realise he wasn’t alone.
He also presents a really interesting exploration of how social media can be quite harmful for people with FOMO, and how it’s generally quite misleading because most people only tend to show off the best parts of their lives and leave out all the rubbish.
Nobody’s life comes with a built-in filter, and being realistic about this is all part of Steven’s approach to feeling less FOMO-ish, and probably something we could all do with seeing on billboards as we go about our days.
Winter graze – Maddy Vian
Now this video does have a few filters on it. Lovely, lovely filters.
This quick montage from Maddy Vian is relaxing, peaceful and even a bit haunting. It makes us want to go out into our very own hypothetical garden and celebrate its overgrown-ness, find some puddles to check out our reflections and maybe swing on the washing line. There would also be cats frolicking around while we did all of this. It would be supreme. Join us.
Character development – Sam-E Locock
It takes a special quality to Rickroll yourself, and here at TenEighty we’re all looking up to Sam-E Locock for managing it quite so successfully.
Bouncing from life’s big questions (you know, the falling tree in the forest one) and featuring this week’s most spectacular segway (her tone of voice, HER TONE OF VOICE) Sammy tackles her aspirations and career goals with gusto and a smashing red lip. And girl, we can totally see you in Parks And Recreation.
Fifty Shades of Grey – Hazel Hayes
“My desires are… unconventional”
“So show me”
*Whips out colour chart*
Hazel Hayes is an artist and has created without doubt the most erotic thing to come out of the Fifty Shades Of Grey era. Is it better than the actual film? Watch it alone to find out.
(Just don’t forget to remove the advert at the bottom of the screen otherwise you’ll miss everything.)
Not enough?
Megan Collins and Aaron O’Sullivan have covered Taylor Swift’s Style. They’re in a park, at one point a dog barks really loudly in the background and it was filmed on Valentine’s Day. Too cute. Also, make sure you stick around for the bloopers featuring a kamikaze scooter child.
Sammy Paul tackled messy break-ups this week with the help from Brad Smith and Liam Jackson from WOTO. Which was kind of confusing because we thought Brad and Liam had a messy break-up? Oh yeah, which reminds us…
Valentine’s Day. Check out TenEighty’s picks for Five of the Best: love-inspired videos, or if your lonely (like us), skip that, move on with your life and watch the latest Collaboration Project from Jack and Finn Harries. This one’s about fear, and ranges from spiders to some pretty heavy stories that may require a tissue.
