2014 is drawing to an end and at times like these we all look back and reflect on the year we’ve had…
Last week TenEighty caught up with 25 content creators to find out about their Christmas plans. This week we ask them to share their proudest moment from 2014, recommend us a YouTuber they’ve enjoyed and nominate one video from the year that they feel had a significant impact on themselves or the community. So just before the clock strikes 2015, let’s celebrate 2014 on YouTube one last time!
Brad Smith
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster for WOTO this year to be honest. We tried to somewhat break away from the WOTO2013 collab-fest and provide our audience with more ‘Liam/Brad’ centric videos and later decided we also wanted to attempt longer format videos with WO2.0 but neither really worked for us.
Then Liam left the channel and I’ve had to kind of remodel myself as a solo act. Sounds like a depressing list of failures but it was lots of fun all the way. Solo vlog videos are not a style I’m used to and with an established audience it’s difficult to kind of learn a new video style while on the go but I’ve sincerely enjoyed the challenge and I think I’m getting better with each video. I guess it’s up to the audience whether I’ve succeeded or not!
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Ooh. I think my new favourite has to be Jake [Shiels] (jakedapegg). He’s a young comedy vlogger who does short hysterical videos. They almost feel like a three minute stand up set.
I think what I enjoy most is that this guy is only 16 but his outlook on life makes you feel like he’s already seen it all and he’s done already. He’s so jaded you’d think he was 60. I think if he keeps at it he has a lot to offer and will definitely grow and only get better. One to keep an eye on definitely.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
Am I allowed to pick anything by Myles [Wheeler] (itsamemyleo)? I am going to pick ‘anything by itsamemyleo’.
There is no way to choose just a single one they are all the same style so it kind of feels like one huge video anyway. I just love the way he has his own technique, form and approach to his videos and all with such a personable feel.
Every single one manages to tick lots of boxes, they are funny, thought-provoking and well put together. He manages to make something that feels like an award winning short-film wrapped inside a weird meme inspired internet humour ribbon. It’s just a home run every time and it’s really awe-inspiring.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
I also want to know the answer to this one. It will likely be a continuation of my late 2014 solo content. Hopefully I can really find my own path without Liam! I guess you’ll all have to tune in to find out!
Cherry Wallis
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
I’m proud of travelling more, something I’ve always longed to do and I want to do even more in 2015. I think I’ve just found my happy place doing something I love.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Becky CJ. She has the most incredible voice, it gives me goosebumps. She really deserves to be heard by millions!
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
A Film For Ella by Jack Harries. I’m a huge hopeless romantic and this just warmed my heart so much, in fact it made me cry! Jack and Finn are also fantastic video makers.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
Three videos a week: more travel vlogs, more beauty/lifestyle/makeup videos and maybe an EP if you’re lucky!
Pete Bucknall
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
Easy: I graduated University. Got a whole degree all to myself! Dead proud!
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
My friend Sam [Moore] (EnjoyingSam). He’s just got this very naturally dry, hilarious way about him. Think Chris Kendall crossed with Joe Sugg!
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
I found Oscar’s Hotel by PJ Liguori just brilliant. It goes to show the power of what independent filmmaking can do. That boy is a creative genius!
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
More impressions, more music, more Disney, more energy!
Mark Ludford
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
I think my Coming Out video was a huge thing for me, it was the final step in such a huge chapter of my life to hit the upload button on that one. I’m very proud of myself for doing it and my family are too.
I also took part in an upcoming documentary called Tofu [which is directed by Benjamin Cook for Channel 4, airing in 2015], in which I talk a lot more about sexuality. I’m incredibly proud of myself to have the confidence to speak up and do these things. Hopefully my experiences will aid someone else who’s struggling like I used to.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Ewan McIntosh (radhaggis). The guy is a little Scottish sweetheart and his videos are consistently good, and he is so fucking talented for a 15-year-old.
He talks very naturally to the camera and he’s both entertaining and charming, and plus his videos are all well-shot, coloured, and edited to a tee. I both envy and adore him.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
YouTube Culture by Louise Pentland. It’s not the most articulated video on the topic, but it certainly sparked off the conversation. It was incredibly brave for such a high-profile YouTuber to spark a conversation about the way YouTubers are seen by their fans, I love seeing people push boundaries like that.
Although I’ll admit it practically became a tag after a while, it was good to see people engage in intelligent conversation rather than just making content, and it was even better to see people were really engaging with it too.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
New videos would be a good start, eh? I honestly don’t know, I come up with video ideas and then I make them usually the same day, so it’s hard to predict what I’ll be uploading next, let alone what’ll appear 12 months down the line.
I think my videos are slowly changing as I grow older though, so I’m hoping that people stick around if I talk about life issues more rather than shoving cinnamon in my ass or something.
Grace and Amelia Mandeville
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
G&A: January 2014 was when we started this YouTube Channel, and it’s been the most incredible year, it’s crazy how much fun it’s been, and we appreciate the support from our viewers and youtube community hugely!
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
G: The amount of YouTubers we’ve discovered this year is crazy. But probably Laura Bubble, her sketch like videos are hilarious and must take ages to film, she definitely deserves a bigger reach!
A: Yeah I agree, she always leaves me laughing!
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
G: Creative wise, Hazel Hayes’ Super Brainy Zombie film is absolutely incredible. I loved it so much, you can tell the effort that went into writing, filming and editing it and I just thought it was really brilliantly put together!
A: This ones a little different, but I really enjoyed Giovanna Fletcher’s writing tips video. I’ve been writing a book on and off for about 6 months now (haven’t got a book deal or anything, just enjoy writing) and it’s just really inspired me. It gave me the motivation I needed to continue writing my story.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
G: I hope to continue experimenting video styles, and create more dynamic and visually catching content, but also continue with the same themes we have on our channel currently.
A: We’ve never done a YouTuber collab on our channel, so hopefully we will start collaborating on some projects with some YouTubers in 2015. I think that would be fun!
Mawaan Rizwan
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
The latest episode of The Mawaan Show because I allow myself to get the shit beaten out of.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Me. I’m so underrated. But if I have to be all democratic and shit, I’d say Kishen Tanna. He’s got an endearing personality and he’s very humble. And he paid me to say that.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
Artverts by Gemma Arrowsmith. Beautifully satirical and sarcastic, Gemma always comes up with great sketch concepts. I wish more YouTubers made stuff like this.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
Teriyaki rolls. Lizards. Traffic cones. Some yoga. My face. My face in a fridge. My fridge facing another fridge.
These are all genuine ideas I’ve had for videos.
Lou Foulkes
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
2014 was my first Summer in the City, so I’m generally proud of myself for turning up, I had an absolute blast, I got to meet so many awesome people, some of whom I’m now lucky enough to call friends.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
There’s only one person who springs to mind and that’s Jon Aitken (jonbehere), both because he’s the only new YouTuber I started watching in 2014 (I’ve been slacking, I know), and because he’s a genuinely interesting and intelligent person.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
It’s probably a bit of a cop out to go for quite possibly the most popular British YouTuber for this one. But Tom Ridgewell‘s Epic Girlfriend Pranks video was the first YouTube video to make me actually laugh out loud in a long time.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
I’ve been focusing a lot more on music, so expect original music (potentially a new EP) and some exciting collaborations that are currently in the pipeline.
Lindsay Atkin
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
Making a series of videos for Anti-Bullying Week – really wasn’t sure I’d pull it off with pressure at work and illness at the time…
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
I really like Nathan Zed (TheThirdPew). He’s funny, honest, articulate and doesn’t shun important issues.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
I loved becoming acquainted with Dottie Martin this year. In particular I adore More Than Marriage.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
More videos with my daughter – focusing on teenage issues. I’m going to be involved in more projects with other mums too.
Doug Armstrong
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
My UK vs US food challenge in Africa. My whole experience in Malawi with SightSavers was incredible and it was a great opportunity to share with my audience the reactions of a local man, who doesn’t eat much more than grain everyday, to foods and candies that they might take for granted. It was great fun to film with him as he was such a laugh.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Lewis Parker (iLewis95), He’s just a very nice guy. Some YouTubers are different people off camera, but his personality is well captured in his videos.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
Laura Bubble doing stand-up. It blew us all away seeing as she’s never done anything like it before, I never knew she could be so so funny!
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
Bigger and better, more enthrilling content with higher production values and new series of videos.
Alex Bertie
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
This year the videos I’m most proud of have to be my new series The Quest to Alex Beard documenting the first steps in my transition from female to male.
I’ve done a lot of stuff this year but I think those videos are so important because I’ve worked so hard to get to this point.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
The main YouTuber I found in 2014 has to be my Jake Edwards (JakeFTMagic). Jake is a musician with a great voice and lovable character. He’s going to be releasing a new album about trans topics next year and I really hope people get the chance to listen to that.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
I have many favourites from 2014 like Strangers in a Bed by Charlie McDonnell and some utterly adorable moments from the SACCONEJOLYs, but Gary C‘s YouTube & Sexual Abuse video classes to me as outstanding.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARfWA8_emPo
At a time where things in the community were divided and especially with such a sensitive topic I think this video is a prime example of understanding your audience. He put factual information out there and it’s just so easy to listen to as his words aren’t filled with complete hate. It’s just a video I think did it’s job.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
I expect 2015 to be a tough year for my channel. You’re going to see my life change as I start my physical transition and see everything that happens as a result. There’s going to be some waiting, maybe some frustration at times but a whole lot of positivity and I can’t wait.
Candice Cathers
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
I made a video called Your Body Belongs To You after the sexual abuse ‘scandal’ on YouTube. It’s so hard to know what to do or say in those situations, but that poem seemed to resonate with people. It was very last minute and poorly edited, but it came from a very honest place.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Melanie Murphy is an Irish beauty vlogger who I came across this year in a really old-fashioned YouTube way.
She commented on my videos and I clicked on her channel and subscribed, then we followed each other and became Facebook friends and now she’s coming to my wedding party. She makes really entertaining videos and is so genuine.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
I loved Rosianna [Halse-Rojas]‘s Bodies and Self Care. It’s one of those important reminders that I go back to every so often. Rosianna always makes important videos and uses her voice in a really positive way. She’s the best.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
Books books books. I plan to read and review lots of books on YouTube, paying particular attention to Irish authors. I want to upload more often (how original) and make a big effort to comment on other people’s videos because I’m so bad at that.
Sam King
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
Over the course of 2014 a lot of things have happened, I think the thing I’m most proud of making, is the friends I have. It’s kinda crazy that some of my best friends are those that I’ve made just from YouTube!
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
I think out of anyone Niki and Sammy Albon deserve it the most, they’re amazing content creators and also just great people in general, also I love their dog.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
I think my favourite video from this year would be Jack Harries‘s YOU spoken word piece. I think the video is just great from every aspect. It also explains YouTube as a whole and really makes you think too.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
I would love to say I have a plan for next year, but really I don’t! What I can tell you is that I’m excited for a few projects that are in the works and that I’ll be on the your screen every Sunday.
Dodie Clark
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
I think I’m most proud of Summer in the City. I’ve done some amazing things this year; moved out, visited America, gone on tour, and was filmed for YouTube Rewind. But Summer in the City was the most shocking and wonderful thing I’ve done.
I underestimated the amount of support I had; I begged people to come to my meet and greet so I wasn’t alone, when in reality every time I went out I couldn’t move due to the amount of people who came to meet me! It was exhausting but utterly utterly brilliant and lovely.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
I discovered Connor Manning. His content is just brilliant. He’s got such an objective viewpoint, and the way he approaches difficult topics is brilliant.
I sometimes show my little sister his videos on gender and sexuality, so she can understand that it’s not a taboo subject
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
I feel as though every YouTuber would say that Myles Wheeler is the best vlogger on YouTube. If I had to pick one, it would be How Many Birds Are There in a Human Body? because it just has everything.
There’s strangeness and sadness and comedy and creativity, all with footage from different cameras and audio from different laptops. It just goes to show you that you can make perfect content from not perfect equipment. This video’s like a scrapbook, and I love it.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
RIGHT. I’m so determined to make 2015 the best year for my channel so far. I’ll be moving into a nice place in London with Evan [Edinger] in January, so we’ll both motivate each other and bounce off creative ideas.
I’ll have time, a MacBook, a nice lens, a nice microphone, and lots of creative determination. There’ll be new music, new merch, and lots and lots more. Woo!
Jamie Pine
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
I’m proud of actually finishing a major project of mine, my website. I will never forget that.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
This dude called PewDiePie, not many have heard him but I think he’s really good.
In all seriousness, I’m not sure if it was this year that I found him, but Connor Manning is brilliant. Great quality videos, really entertaining and you’ll probably love him too.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
Every Jack Howard video.. oh that’s not allowed? Okay. The David Attenborough Observes Fans at Summer In The City, do I even need to explain why?
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
I think any YouTuber will say ‘lots’, but I do think 2015 will be a good year for me. 2014 started off so badly and ended so well, I just need to keep it going. In short, many different things, I’m branching out and trying new things.
Quinn Humphreys
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
I attempted to make two short films this year, attempted because the first was a failure and the second was pretty rushed. However, I’m incredibly grateful for my fantastic team of friends that helped me out, I’m most proud of my awesome friends.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Ben Quacks. Ben. Quacks. He’s great. Honestly, I love him. He’s the sweetest guy and throughout the year his videos have shown a real growth, as he’s developed his own style into something really nice to watch.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
Going to have to go with this. I’m not sure if it’s by a British YouTuber but it was filmed here! Kishi Bashi has really had an effect on me this year and his music never fails to create some crazy emotions within me. I highly recommend you check his stuff out!
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
Next year I’m planning to further my music career, vlogging when I can as school dies down. If you’re a fan of Jeff Buckley and the White Stripes then you’ll probably like the kind of stuff I’m planning. I’ll be looking for clubs to play in and releasing an EP at the start of the year with my band ‘All the Lights’.
Ania Mags
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
I’m quite proud that I didn’t murder anyone this year.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Punchthecurtains. She doesn’t upload frequently but when she does her husky voice and complex vocabulary will blow you away. You want to squeeze her cheeks but also engage into a deeply intellectual conversation with her.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZg6rM5qOSk
My Alter Ego by Arun Karra (morelikearun). This video changed my life. It is cinematically beautiful and the sharp wit of Arun’s quips are rivalled by no one else.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
More videos.
Paul Neafcy
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
I’m proud of a few things I’ve done this year, I made a series of interviews with YouTubers about movies, which I think is a good resource for people interested in YouTubers and their influences.
I appeared in Tim H’s Bad Burglars Series, which was too much fun and I got to drive in a car chase. I co-wrote Tim H’s musical What Have We Done? sketch, which was my first official work as a writer.
I chaired the Smaller Youtuber panel at Summer in the City, which rekindled the notion of ‘Youtube Community’ for me and I hope they’ll have me back next year!
And finally I have just wrapped production on a 10-episode web series produced by the Wildseed Comedy channel, which should be uploaded in March.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Francesca Georgiou (FranJustFran) has become a voice for good in the youtube community with her We are here for you video, which should be seen by more people.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
I nominate Mammoths in the the Snow by Ed Stockham. I always admire Ed’s work, but this is particularly good. Earthy, homemade visuals and a cyclical, ethereal song about the passage of time. It’s 2 minutes of wonder, representative of the possibilities of Youtube at its very best.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
My channel is hopefully going to be a bit more consistent in terms of uploads, but I’ve done a few different series of videos this year, and I think I’ll be going back to individual unrelated videos about whatever takes my fancy.
Elsewhere, you’ll be seeing my series on the Wildseed Comedy channel in March. It’s about a character called Phillip Human and is written specifically for YouTube. It’s a horror/comedy vlog series which will hopefully be funny and scary and silly and even a little dramatic… I’m interested to see how people respond to it.
Chloe Dungate
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
Appearing on the Smaller YouTubers panel at Summer in the City was a sensational opportunity. I felt really proud to be part of such a close and enthusiastic community. Having attended SitC four years running, it was an honour to be involved.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Faye Stanton. All round lovely lady and talented actress. I found her by chance on a new social network in October, and we’ve already collaborated. She definitely deserves more recognition for her hard work.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
Horse by Tom Ridgewell. It’s a very important piece.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
In 2015 I’ll be making new content for my own channel as well as weekly videos for Save the Children! Save the Children are keen to reach out to the YouTube community and are basically letting me run amok on their channel which is very brave and awesome of them.
I hope to make my channel a safe haven for shy people and outcasts everywhere with my doodlemations and generally cringey demeanour. But both will start featuring more comedy, hopefully letting me flex my acting muscles and giving me more opportunities to collaborate with other YouTubers.
Jack Dean
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
Becoming YouTube was a real nice thing to be asked to do. I think Ben [Cook] cast me pretty well too.
Interviewing stars at a couple of film premieres in London was definitely a bucket-list item ticked off!
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Without a shadow of a doubt: Myles Wheeler. I feel that recently, his content is getting more plaudits, which it definitely deserves. But Myles has taken the ‘art’ of old-school vlogging, and reinvented it. Check him out, but just don’t let his odd video titles put you off!
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
Hip To Be A Hipster by myself. For years, I was uploading a lot of content that I wasn’t proud of, and just waiting around for the monthly cheque from YouTube. But this year, that all changed.
My friend Stevie and I wrote a song about hipster kids, and we even brought on As A Button production team to shoot it for us. It’s leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of my content, I feel, and as despite the arrogance in answering this question with my own video; I’m proud enough of it to not care.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
This year, I’ve managed to interview eight celebrities for my Jack’s Chat series. I love working with people in the public eye, and I also love asking them questions that nobody else would – seeing celebs squirm is always nice.
I’m going to aim to add another 10 big names to that series for 2015, so look out for that. Also, I’m definitely going to start collaborating with more YouTube based personalities too. 2015 should be a lot of fun!
Luke Cutforth
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
I’m most proud of making my relationship public near the end of this year. It’s made me and her very happy and more relaxed and came at a time, too, when I really needed some positivity in my life.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
My lovely friend (and also partner manager) Lizzi Michael. She’s the most adorably lovely person ever and I want nothing but good things for her!! I promise she didn’t make me say that :P
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
The Day I Shaved My Head By Emma Blackery, of course, I’m such a loser. But this did something really special for both of us.
It was the moment I realised I wanted everyone to know about me and Emma, and when I realised how strong and kind and caring she is. Emma gets a lot of negativity online but she honestly always means well and this is the epitome of her caring soul.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
It’s going to develop a lot. I believe that you are massively influenced by the 6 people you spent the most time with. My friendships have changed a lot this year. I’ve left uni, lost a few friends and gained a few too. That’ll only continue into next year and I’ll naturally develop as a person too.
I plan to take YouTube a lot more seriously, focus a lot more and make every video 100x better than anything I made this year. I aim to make 2015 my biggest year yet so I can’t wait to get started!!
Laura Bubble
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
Last month I did my first stand-up. Its something I’ve wanted to do for ages so I’m really glad I finally did it!
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
There’s so many! One of my favourite channels is Joel [Wood] and Lia [Hatzakis]. I met them at Summer in the City this year and they’re lovely, funny and very talented. Also Nick Crompton’s videos are absolutely hilarious too!
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
Dottie Martin’s More Than Marriage spoken word video is incredible. I love it! She’s such a positive influence on her viewers.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
Comedy, fun and probably some more embarrassing stories! I also want to do more stand-up as well.
Jonti Picking
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
I’m pretty happy with the remix I did for Bethan Leadley. It didn’t get tons of views but it scratched an itch I had. Producing the music with Jack [Howard] and Dean [Dobbs] on Consent was great too.
Starting our kid friendly channel, JellyBug has been really pleasing and fun. I’m looking forward to getting more stuck into that next year.
Obviously my proudest moment was finally releasing the Savlonic album that we Kickstarted. I made a real, physical album and it’s pretty not bad. Maybe even good. The new video for it is quite something too.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Natalie Evans. Her voice blows me away and I had to buy her album as soon as I heard it. She’s got this quirky style that doesn’t really sound like anyone else.
I like that and I’d love to work on a bunch of tracks with her if I could. I’d love to work on tracks with a few other guys too but who knows.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
Sam Pepper’s butt touching video. It’s outstandingly awful, wrong and at the same time honest about what sort of a person he is. I think it’s also brought about a lot of change for the better in the wider community.
Seeing the almost weekly outings of YouTubers who have abused their position of power/trust was saddening and needed. I think Sam really brought it to a head as it caused such a backlash that those affected felt they could finally come forward.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
If all the other animation channels are anything to go by, then Let’s Play videos five times a week.
Branches 2 after over a year since I started on it. Also I’m really, really hoping the finally get Magical Trevor the series commissioned. That would make me happy. It would be nice to be happy.
Emma Blackery
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
Shaving my head, for sure. Biggest moment of my life, let alone 2014. Facing my fear and stripping away something I used to hide behind that I considered a major part of my identity and embracing what I consider my flaws as who I really am as a person… extremely liberating. And hearing people singing The Promise as it happened? It still gives me goosebumps.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Maddie QLC (clothesandcurls). She runs a lifestyle and beauty blog and she’s so down to earth with her hauls and reviews, and she deserves so much more recognition than she gets.
Nominate one video from 2014 that you feel is outstanding?
My Depression Story by Luke [Cutforth]. I guess I’m a little biased, and insert appropriate trigger warnings here, but the message in this video is so strong. People we look up to have gone through their struggles, too, and you’re not alone.
What should we expect from your channel in 2015?
Honestly, I have no idea where life is taking me next year. All I know is that I’m excited for it. I’m still continuing with my five-a-week schedule as much as I can, even though I’m planning on touring and travelling next year. I want to make videos with more people next year, though! That’s a goal for me.
Myles Wheeler
What is your proudest moment of 2014?
I think I’m most proud of my Project for Awesome video because I like the idea of people learning about something they didn’t know. I don’t think many people know what Parkinson’s, is so I’m glad I can let people know. And also its quite a personal subject, so to see the positive reaction only makes me more pleased about the video and what it says.
And also I really like my end of gap year video. I wanted to try out making longer form vlogs. I knew that a lot of change would be happening soon so I wanted to see if I could capture that feeling in a video and I’m really happy with the result. A good time capsule of how I felt at the time, and good to look back on from the other side of so much change.
Name one YouTuber you discovered in 2014 that you feel deserves a bigger reach?
Zachary Little: Refreshing, adventurous, makes something simple into so much more. Captures a good feeling of life. His videos remind me to not overlook smaller moments in life, and try to appreciate little things, he loves a montage showing off life, and a lot of that stuff happens when I might not realise its a montage moment.
