Is it just us or are the weeks, as well as daylight hours, getting shorter?
We barely finish going about our day and it’s dark already, leaving our only option being to wrap up in a blanket burrito with our laptop and watch YouTube videos all evening. Now THAT is true love.
We know we can’t be the only ones, and after a particularly charitable week, here is our selection of the best from UK YouTubers from the past seven days. Enjoy!
#NOBYSTANDERS | Alex Bertie
We love Alex, he’s such a cutie, and he does an amazing job of educating the world about what it’s like to be a trans guy in the UK today, as well as a load of really entertaining content as well. If you’re interested in learning more about being trans, check out his playlist here. He was also on this year’s LGBTQ+ panel at Summer in the City, which we wrote about earlier this year.
In #NoBystanders, Alex gets behind the Stonewall campaign that ties in with Anti-Bullying Week. #NoBystanders wants people to stand up against slurs that might insult or bully people and basically we think it’s fantastic. Watch his video and take a look at a couple of other contributors to the #NoBystanders campaign, Jazza John, Lex Croucher and Gary C have all uploaded videos too.
Paper Moon – Jazz Acappella | James Rose
We love the new approach taken with split-screens by James Rose, using multiple devices for each of his layers. This glorious acappella version of Paper Moon is even more impressive when you consider the fact it’s done in one take! No smoke and mirrors here – this is real, classy talent!
We’re just curious to figure out what kind of person has two iPhones and two iPads? Maybe he borrowed them off a friend, but perhaps this using-your-voices shindig has more potential profit in it than we initially thought. That’s it, we’re forming a TenEighty barbershop quartet. We’ll be glorious. Pentatonix eat your heart out!
YouTubers Talk: We Are Here For You | Francesca Georgiou
The YouTube community has had a difficult few months after the sex abuse scandal. There has been an outpouring of sympathy and commentary from people within the community but here is a great collab, put together by YouTubers all over the world, to express their support for those who have been a victim of abuse.
We interviewed video creator Francesca Georgiou about why #WeAreHereForYou is so important, read that here.
Back to the video. It features the likes of Gary C, Paul Neafcy, Daniel J Layton and many more. We definitely believe in #WeAreHereForYou, have you shown your support yet?
Introducing Fawn | Wildseed Comedy Capsule
We’re rather excited about Wildseed. They’re a new project that aims to shove original comedy right down your gullet, with a new series being released every single month. We’ll also eventually see some great original comedy creations from our very own YouTubers such as Paul Neafcy, who announced his character, Phillip Human, will be getting his own series on Wild Seed next year.
Speaking of YouTubers, TenEighty team member Fawn Mead has been revealed as Wildseed’s very own personal comedy guide on the journey through the channel’s future lol-moments. Their first series is Staff Room, which you can begin watching here. We can confirm that it’s actually rather good.
Brewsters Spruce Pit | itsamemyleo
Quite frankly, Myles Wheeler is a blooming genius. He’s just started University and we were worried that his productivity would collapse. Well, you know what YouTube’s like. But then he hit us with this glorious offering of psychedelic, self-referential commentary. He’s also clearly learning things on his film course; he knows that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a movie. Give that guy a First.
Brewsters Spruce Pit is filmed in varying qualities over what looks like a few weeks, but it’s his ability to string together a narrative between making nachos, to playing hide and seek, to going to a club which is really impressive.
We’re kind of blown away by him, which means we basically want you to subscribe and fanboy him NOW!
More than a womaaa… Round-Up…
Are you down for listening to a bit more music? Then check out the new single, Perfect, from Emma Blackery. The video features loads of viewers and a great message about self worth that is making us feel all warm and tingly and, wet? Oh, we just weed ourselves with excitement. Let’s move on.
If you enjoyed Myles’s stories from University, perhaps you’d like to check out this video by Veguntold, all about being dropped in the middle of little England while making his way back to Cambridge with no money and having to complete challenges along the way. It’s moderately entertaining! Students, eh?
That’s it for this week, but as always if you think we’ve missed something out then FOR GOD SAKE TELL US. Drop us a Tweet to @TenEightyUK or write all over our TenEighty UK wall on Facebook.
