A whole week has passed… and the the Scots are still with us! Hooray!
Not only that, pumpkin spiced lattes are now available (*drools*) and Sam Pepper is doing things you can read about over here on another part of our website, because the round-up is meant to be a light hearted part of TenEighty.
So while hell is breaking out over there, we thought it’d be nice to give you a selection of the best videos from UK YouTubers this week. Think of it as a chance to give your brain a little rest from all the serious stuff. So without further ado, here’s the weekly roundup!
A New Project – JacksGap x Skype
Finn and Jack Harries haven’t posted a video on their channel in blooming aaaaages and quite frankly we’d been getting withdrawal symptoms: a rash that can only be cured when Finn flashes his pearly whites in a minimum of 720p resolution.
It’s wonderful to see the internet’s favourite twins back again (sorry Niki & Sammy Albon – xoxo). The most exciting news is that Jack is now turning into a big shot documentary producer with the help of Skype!
TenEighty’s very own Lucy Evenden has been helping the boys out with some project management (it’ll look fantastic on your CV Lu!) so we just had to stick this in the round-up to give you that twin-kick we all needed.
Rash cured.
The Tree Song – Dave Giles
We haven’t featured music on the Weekly Round-Up in a while, so who better to feature than the lovely Dave ‘more beard than human’ / ‘man-mountain’ / ‘lips like a Jolie-Pitt baby’ Giles. The Tree Song is a song written from the perspective of a tree, naturally, which we can definitely all relate to. Dave is also going on tour so you should definitely check him out if you have the chance!
Do you know of any musical diamond in the rough on YouTube that you think the rest of the TenEighty HQ would enjoy humming along too? Make sure you tweet any new finds from the UK YouTubes to @TenEightyUK.
We Went To Edinburgh! No More Tickets Below! – The RH Experience
As we continue this Weekly Round-Up, it’s starting to feel like a bit of a comeback tour. First Jack & Finn and now Connor Jatter, Tom Webster, Luke Spillane and Dan Attfield have returned to our screens. The boys have been busy doing real-life-comedy things at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival… we gave them a five star review BTW!
Here they give us some loveable anecdotes from their time at the Fringe and give an example of the copious amount of flyering it takes to pull off a comedy show in Edinburgh. Watch out for the Tom Bacon hard sell!
Gertrude’s First Kiss | Let’s Play The Sims 4 LD ShadowLady
We love a good The Sims Let’s Play, especially when it’s the shiny new The Sims 4. It’s like reality TV but with even less reality! We also love Lizzie for her quirky commentary and the complex story arcs.
In this particular Sims Let’s Play we follow the enigmatic Gertrude. Oh Gertrude, you clumsy thing, breaking all the plumbing and distracting the other sims from going about their business.
You’ll be a witness to some giant gnomes and a discotec (in the middle of the day) before we get to the kiss. There’s so much drama! Gertrude’ll be replacing the Kardashians before you know it!
The Power of Girl // Street Harassment + Sexual Assault – Rosianna Halse Rojas
Okay, maybe we should allow for some commentary on the whole Sam Pepper fiasco. Rosianna Halse Rojas is, as always in her videos, incredibly articulate in her analysis of what Pepper did and also the wider problem with the culture that surrounds the people who think his actions were okay.
“The street is where so many women feel like they lose power, and feel like they can’t reclaim it…
And more often than not, even when you try and grab that power back… they [sexual harassers] just laugh and walk away, and that’s them taking the power back.”
Rosianna reiterates that what Sam Pepper did was street harassment. We can’t put it any better than she does, so please take a seat and watch her all the way through.
What’s that? You want MORE distractions to stop you seething up with rage over the silence of Sam Pepper? Well here are a few more scatterings of YouTube content.
It is a new season after all, so why not indulge in a couple of Autumnal-themed (not ‘fall’, we are British after all!) videos. One from Lex Croucher and another from the gentlemen at World of the Orange.
Alternatively if you enjoyed the taste of seriousness then take a look at Alex Thomas helping out Bite News with some commentary about censorship. He writes for us as well (nepotism is fun) and he’s ever so clever in the video! Watch it here.
Missed last week’s Round-Up? Check it out! Or for something more serious, why not read our articles on the YouTube Sex Abuse Scandal or The Sexism Shift?
