We don’t need no education. We don’t need no thought control. We just need another Weekly Round-Up!
Trust us, you never feel older than when everyone goes crazy about going back to school and you realise that the end of summer hasn’t meant the reboot of your education for several years. But despite the fact we at TenEighty feel a bit past it watching all you young things return to class, we’re still clinging to our youth by watching streams upon streams of YouTube videos. Here’s our pick of the best of YouTube from the last week to dull the pain of having to sit through your sociology class… or whatever it is the young things learn these days.
Why The News Needs To Be Changed – Bite News
“The news was created to engage and inform us… but has the news changed with us?” Jamal Edwards of SBTV would argue no. And so he has started a new news channel on YouTube with the help of Bite The Ballot called Bite News.
It’s about time the UK saw its own Young Turks, and we’re expecting amazing things from this SBTV-BTB venture. The way we get our news needs a big kick up the bottom, so check out the channel and hold tight for what we’re expecting to be something that really shakes up the information world!
What’s In My Bag: Backpack Edition | I Covet Thee
We love a good What’s In My Bag video. Although none of us at TenEighty would ever be able to do our own because of the amount of trash we carry around with us. It’s mainly half eaten paninis and countless loyalty cards. But we love this offering from Alix not only because of the catchy background music, but also because everything she shows us looks like something we would actually be able to afford (see the Primark purse and the H&M sunglasses). The bag as well! We just love it. The whole TenEighty team will be sporting our own versions in no time!
SEX TOYS – Hannah Witton
“You know what helps when you’re feeling ill? Orgasms.”
Never have wiser words been spoken, and we feel that the same philosophy can be applied to the back to school blues that we’re sure a number of you are feeling.
Hannah Witton is doing an amazing job at educating her audience about sex, relationships and sexual health. Normalising the fact that everyone, even women, need to get intimate with themselves from time to time (and that there is a plethora of optional aids when you want to do so) is super important. So what better way to drive this fact home by opening a box of sex toys on camera! Our favourites include a vibrating lipstick and a non-penis dildo. Keep up the great work Hannah!
Friends and Friendship Issues – Linsday Atkin
The YouTube Mum is back! And this time Lindsay Atkin has bought her daughter, the lovely Bridie, along for the ride to talk about friendships and the different experiences the two of them had growing up.
It’s lovely to see such an intimate chat between mother and daughter comparing and contrasting their different experiences. Lindsay moved around a lot as a child, whereas Bridie tended to be at the same schools while she was growing up.
Lindsay specifically talks about an experience of losing a friend as a teenager and never patching it up, but at least she always has a friend in us here at TenEighty. Another great discussion, and we can’t wait until the next one!
London Fun, Crying in a Car & Hair Twins – More Zoella
We love Zoe Sugg‘s second channel as it really does give us a glimpse into her life as one of the biggest YouTubers in the UK and the craziness that that entails. This is a day in the life of Zoe on the day that her boyfriend, Alfie Deyes, released his Pointless Book.
The video is particularly insightful when we see Alfie and Zoe in the back of a car being swamped by their fans and having the car windows banged as they crawl through the crowd. Zoe starts crying but doesn’t fully explain why.
Honestly, we think the footage looks terrifying and it’s a testament to Zoe and Alfie that they managed to keep their cool in such an intense situation. Hopefully they will get to experience a little bit of normality after all of this insanity.
But TenEighty! I still have half an hour before my class starts! Can’t you give me some more media to consume? Well okay then, but only after you’ve finished your homework.
If you want something a little more hard hitting then take a look at Dodie Clark‘s channel, where she talks about depression and her friend, TomSka, being open about his experience. Definitely worth a watch to make you think about the disease.
Remember SitC? That was fun wasn’t it! Relive the experience by watching the videos of the panels which have been going up all of last week. Our fave was the LGBTQ+ panel with Tyler Oakley, so relive the experience with us!
Are you sick of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenges yet? No? Good! Neither are we! Take a look at this offering from Hazel Hayes, where she talks honestly about the disease and then does the challenge but… does it in a shower because she doesn’t have a bucket. Top points for resourcefulness.
Right, get back to class you skivers!
Missed last week’s round up? Or maybe our cover story with Lindsay Atkin? Or maybe you want to relive more of SitC with our photo recaps of Saturday and Sunday? There’s a load of TenEighty goodness to get you through the day!
