Tomska becomes the first guest presenter of the new Dan and Phil show, which lets YouTubers take over BBC Radio 1.
Dan Howell and Phil Lester are handing over control of their new 9pm Monday slot to fellow YouTubers, letting them host their own one-off gigs at Radio 1.
In the coming weeks, Zoe Sugg, Louise Pentland, Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs, Tyler Oakley, Troye Sivan, Marcus Butler, Caspar Lee, Joe Sugg and Patricia Bright will all take over the show, following Tom Ridgewell’s debut tonight.
The stand-alone programmes will allow the YouTubers freedom to choose some of their own music and curate their own radio content.
In addition to the new one-off hosts, Dan and Phil will be making regular appearances on the show. They will present the first Monday of every month and introduce each guest YouTuber every week.
Speaking about the changes, Dan and Phil said: “We’re both extremely excited about our new show. We feel like proud parents introducing the spawn of the internet to the people of the radio. Each personality will bring something totally different and seeing what they do with their episode and what music they play will be a really interesting, great experience!”
The controller of BBC Radio 1, Ben Cooper, said: “Traditional youth broadcasters must adapt or die. It would be short-sighted to dismiss the importance of vloggers and ignore the new breed of presenting talent that are so influential to young audiences.”
Dan and Phil first launched their weekly Sunday evening show on the station in early 2013. The programme paired listener song requests with a live visual element, and was simulcast via an online web stream. They won a 2013 Sony Golden Headphones Award for the show.
The show is available internationally on the BBC Radio 1 website.
