It’s the craze that took the internet by storm – a wet, icy storm. If you haven’t heard of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by now, you must have been living under a bucket for the last few weeks.
Celebrities, political leaders and YouTubers alike – the challenge has been taken on by every man and his dog (no really, we’ve featured a dog in this very article, but more on that later). So, here we are then, counting down Five of the Best: Ice Bucket Challenges.
5. Charlie McDonnell
YouTube OG Charlie McDonnell kicks off our countdown with his rooftop challenge featuring his lovely girlfriend Emily. CharlieIsSoCoolLike? More like, CharlieIsSoIcyColdLike… right? Despite not looking very happy to take part, Charlie and Emily pour the contents of their bowls over their heads like champs. Remember, this is all for a good cause and definitely not an attempt to prove he’s still relevant on YouTube.
Furthermore, Charlie’s’ mum Linsday Atkin joined in the fun with her very own Ice Bucket Challenge video. It’s worth checking out, if not only to see her discomfort in sloooooow mooootionnnn. Brilliant.
4. Sam Sadler
Warning: This video is VERY NSFW. Sam Sadler, who calls himself ‘The Pussyman’, has chipped in with his attempt at the tag. If you don’t already know of Sam – his a cappella dubstep videos have racked up more than three million views and he was recently featured on E4’s Virtually Famous (hosted by Kevin McHale off of Glee AND Chris Stark off of Radio 1 – good show!).
In the video, Sam is drenched while wearing a green mankini. Frankly we’re not sure how it hasn’t been flagged yet. The video had us screaming OMG so here it is at number 4 in the list. You have been warned.
3. Hannah Rutherford from YOGSCAST
Hannah Rutherford from gaming empire YOGSCAST opted for the rather sensible bathroom setting for her video. With partner Lewis Brindley behind the camera, Hannah rambles on until there’s only one thing left to do – cover herself in freezing cold water.
Manoeuvring a huge tub in a cramped shower isn’t easy at the best of times, so we applaud her technique. That said, we collectively shouted “SIT DOWN” at our screen as she almost stood up to take on the challenge. Nobody needs water all over the bathroom floor, not even Hannah.
2. Fudge the Dog
Is it cruel to chuck icy water over an unsuspecting, helpless animal? Yes, yes it is. It’s a spiteful thing to do and that is largely why we are featuring this video in our list. Thankfully, video creator Jack Proctor had more sense than to upload an animal cruelty video to YouTube.
We won’t spoil it, so just watch the video. On another note, Jacks accent has us completely smitten, so we reckon he should make more YouTube videos. Either that, or pop over to TenEighty HQ and whisper sweet nothings in his thick Scottish accent. #Swoon
1. Tom Law
Guess what, the swooning doesn’t stop there! Musician Tom Law has well and truly earned his position in the top spot. No, not JUST because he’s hunky, he takes the challenge to an extreme by doing it FOUR times, one for each of his nominations. Talk about dedication to the cause.
Regardless of how many times we’ve rewatched the bit where he takes his shirt off, Tom encourages his viewers to follow his lead by donating to the cause. On a serious note, four whole buckets of water and his swooping fringe stood strong. What voodoo magic does Tom use on his hair!?
Don’t forget to donate!
When all the fun and games are done, it’s important to remember why the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has gone viral. No, not to see people get their kit off, to raise money and awareness for ALS / MND.
You can donate by clicking here or if you’re in the UK, text ICED55 to 70070 to donate £5.
TenEighty editor Teoh Lander-Boyce even joined in the fun and you can see his attempt (featuring YouTube legend Tamsin Hickling) by clicking here.
