Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the TenEighty Weekly Round-Up of course! Seriously, how could you get those confused?
Howdy folks, this week we have a whole heap of great content. We have another video with Caspar Lee (ok, ok, I know we’ve featured him before. You think it’s favouritism? How dare you! Shhh) There’s also a couple of thought-provoking monologues, and two hilarious vlogs. So, let’s not waste any more time and get to it!
Caspar Lee & Maisie Williams – Bedroom Advice
A lot of people watch Game of Thrones. We here at TenEighty do not. Apparently Maisie Williams, Caspar Lee’s special guest, is in it, but we wouldn’t know. We are gonna watch it, we promise. We just haven’t had the time. A cheeky Google search tells us she plays Arya Stark, the daughter of the guy on the sword throne on the season one box-set that we bought our mates mum for her birthday. Wikipedia also tells us… wait he what?… Oh no! Spoliers! NOOOOOOOO!
Anyway, in this video Caspar and Maisie come across like old friends as they discuss life advice, but we’re suspicious how long they’ve actually known each other. The highlight is the t-shirts… we need one of them. This is an entertaining funny video whether you’ve seen Game of Thrones or not. Even if you’ve accidentally spoiled the entire first season whilst writing an article. [sigh].
Myles Wheeler – What You’ve (Covered In Glitter)
What’ve You (Covered in Glitter) perfectly encapsulates Myles’ unique style. The video jumps around a variety of topics in a way that almost doesn’t make sense, but actually weaves in meaningful discussions of fears and growing up between sheer comedy.
He jumps from discussing being a paperboy, theme parks, massive bear he’s dreamt about, all in a way that somehow makes perfect sense. Sort of. Also, there’s a bit of a Grease sing-along at the end. If that doesn’t sell it to you, we really don’t know what will.
Bethan Mary Leadley – Insecurity
Not your typical musical affair or chatty vlog from Bethan this week, but a spoken-word-monologue-thing over a montage of old footage. It’s remarkable how honest and personal Bethan is about herself in this video. Bethan states, “who the fuck cares?”, as she internally kicks the bullies of her past in the face and takes control herself of how she wants to be. And we love this message.
She adds swiftly that she’s far from perfect, but one anonymous writer in the TenEighty team would like to say that she is. He describes himself as a romantic, but anyone who hides behind a publication to make grand professions of love is probably using that term very loosely. Get back to work anon!
George Long – Summer Hacks
http://youtu.be/ngUqRDEl1YI
To combat the online cliché that those of us who watch YouTube videos rarely go outdoors, we confess that we occasionally enjoy the sunshine. However being said Internet users, we do find ourselves unable to adapt to the world outside often struggling to keep cool in the blistering heat. So imagine our delight at finding George Long’s brilliant new video. We love his dry and sarcastic humour, and it’s the perfect thing to watch when it’s just too hot outside to function.
Another one of our writers commented on how he’s never been so excited to see a topless boy throwing cold water over himself. He also noticed that George wears underwear from Next and has now purchased some as a result of this. Don’t worry, we’ve locked that one up in a cage. We really need to get a hold on our writers. Maybe it’s the heat or something.
Sam-E Locock – Create
Quoting Albert Einstein, Sam-E Locock says “Creativity is contagious, pass it on.” What we love about this video is how inspired it makes us feel after watching it, literally doing exactly what Einstein himself commanded.
The feelings Sam-E mentions throughout the short are very relatable. Despite the freedom of summer we often do very little with it, and the simplicity of the message encapsulated by the videos title, tone and approach can inspire anyone to fight those summer blues.
She’s right. Making things can often be therapeutic and enjoyable. Heck, we’re here writing this round-up and we already feel better despite the unfortunate Game of Thrones spoilers. Create. Simple as that.
We want more! We want more!
Finneeee, get off our case. Anyone who is anyone knows there is an ancient affinity with the ukulele and YouTubers. Dodie Clark is known for her delightful ukulele covers and original songs, and in her new video she actually builds one herself. We love it! Very cool indeed!
Gary C made an excellent video looking at the masculine gender role and what it means to be ‘manly’. A thoughtful and funny discussion, and we must say, we are LOVING the beard!
Finally we have a hilarious attempt at YouTuber impressions video by LukesBeans, we say ‘hilarious attempt’ because we’re not too sure if it’s the impressions that are funny themselves or the attempt at them. We’ll let you be the judge of that.
Think there was something better from last week? Tell us your best bits in the comments below. Don’t forget to follow us on twitter, where you can tell us throughout the week who we should be looking out for next weeks round-up. Guess we’ll be meeting some of you at Summer in the City this weekend, won’t we? See you there TenEightiers!
