Summer in The City has announced its first ever Industry Day. It will take place on 8 August, a day before the rest of the convention.
Tickets are priced at £80 and Industry Day + Weekend tickets are also available for £120. The day is a strictly 16+ event.
The event organisers have stressed the day is for creators and industry professionals. In a statement on the convention’s Facebook page they said: “There will be a code of behaviour in place and anyone who is seen to be asking for autographs, photographs, or in any way acting in a non-professional manner will be asked to leave.”
The day will feature seminars, workshops and panels focusing on a variety of subjects such as Building an Audience, Google+, Networks, Working With Brands and Social Media Marketing.
There will be two rooms, one focusing on creators and a second targeting business oriented topics. There will also be a pop-up studio space where “attendees can learn some key techniques, which will improve their video content.”
This move sees Summer in the City following other global YouTube conventions like VidCon and Playlist Live. Both offer Industry and/or Business Days for content creators and companies at higher ticket prices.
The announcement has met a mixed response on social media so far. While some have commented that the price of the ticket is “extortionate”, one commenter says it is “a fantastic idea for the people wishing to get a more ‘constructive’ experience”.
Updated 11 July 2014:
Following feedback from the community, Summer In The City have addressed the high Industry Day ticket price and introduced a Scholarship discount.
Posting on the event Tumblr page, the organisers said: “The reason the ticket prices are higher than the other days is simply that Industry Day costs us more per head to put on, due to a smaller capacity. We also measured prices against many similar events, to ensure they weren’t unreasonable”.
The new scheme is open to creators who currently have YouTube channels and will bring the ticket price down to £30 for the day, or just £60 for the full 3 day event.
To apply for a Scholarship discount, fill out this form and their team will contact you.
