Hazel Hayes has revealed she will revive one of her most popular characters – Unnecessary Otter.
She made the announcement at VidFest UK, a YouTube community event hosted within the MCM ComiCon at London’s Excel. She also showed the trailer to her recent short film, Super Brainy Zombies.
Hayes spoke of how she hopes to be a trail blazer for more women to go into online film production in the UK and noted that a lot of her engagement comes from young female content creators.
Hayes’s Unnecessary Otter series sees her play the straight-man to a profanity-prone stuffed animal called Otter (he is actually an English pine marten). The comedy skits parody children’s television and were conceptualised with the help of The World of the Orange.
Hayes said to expect the new series by the end of summer and suggested that the title would be The Unnecessary Otter Trilogy in Four Parts.
Unnecessary Otter is currently a series of seven specials on Hayes’ channel, ChewingSand.
